Knox’s growl rips through my mind the second I turn away from Lola.

“Go after her.” I don’t even get the chance to think before his voice becomes a snarl. “Now, Alec. Find our mate before it’s too late.”

He doesn’t need to tell me twice. The urge to find her is already burning inside me like a fucking inferno.

“Micah,” I bark, turning sharply to where he stands. “Take her to the dungeon.”

Micah nods, his jaw locked and arms fisted at his side. He turns and gives Lola one of the most scathing looks I’ve ever seen.

Lola stammers, blinking as if she can’t believe what I said. “Wait—what?”

I don’t even look at her. “Put her in the dungeon. I’ll question her tomorrow.”

“Alec, please.” Lola starts, but I cut her off with a glare sharp enough to silence her.

“Not another fucking word, from you.” My voice is ice. “If you resist, I won’t hesitate to make you regret it.”

Her face falls, but I don’t stay to watch. Did she really think she could waltz back here like nothing happened? Like she didn’t lie about being my mate and then disappear for three fucking years? She has another thing coming if she thought I was going to let that slide. That stunt nearly cost me my mate and pup. She will answer for that.

I push thoughts of her to the back of my mind. Knox is already pulling at me, his claws scraping at the inside of my skin.

I start running, determination setting in. I need to find her. I need to find Sadie. I need to make sure that I don’t lose her.

Sadie’s scent hits me. My chest tightens painfully as I follow it through the cool night air, past the training grounds, and through the garden. Each breath feels heavier than the last. Like the very air I’m trying to push into my lungs is being forced down, making it hard to breathe.
