Hayley’s POV: 

“That ring is pretty.” I forced a polite smile and gave Monica a half–hearted compliment.

The moment I said it, Monica sneered. “People should know their place. Some lowly Omega should remember what she is. Running to the Southwells‘ Residence to flirt with the Midnight Pack heirs was shameful enough. Now she dares to set her sights on the Alpha of Grimmoon Pack? Please. In everyone’s eyes, she’s nothing but a clown.” 

Hera bristled at her words, ready to fight. 

My smile faded. I clenched my fist and said with a mocking tone, “Before today, I barely remembered you. But after hearing all this, I’m sure I’ll never forget you again … Miss Big Mouth.” 

Monica’s face flushed bright red. She snapped, her wolf eyes flashing, “Shut up! Who are you calling big mouth? I am not a big mouth!” 

Her friends rushed to back her up. 

“This lowly Omega really doesn’t know her place, talking like that!” 

“Exactly. She’s too much! The chess exhibition is about to start. If she doesn’t want to embarrass herself so badly that she can’t show her face again, she should leave now!” 

Monica smirked again, now that her crew was backing her up. She stood tall in the middle, her eyes challenging me. 

Her friends kept mocking me. 

“So what if Truman picked you? That doesn’t change anything.” 

“Everyone here has to play in the chess exhibition. It’s tradition. Even if you’re Truman’s woman, there are no special privileges. Lose, and you’ll be thrown out just like anyone else.” 

“I can’t wait to see you humiliate yourself in front of everyone. After that, let’s see if a low- ranking Omega like you dares to show off in high society again!” 

Monica gave me a smug smile. She even pretended to be generous. “Don’t be so hard on her. She doesn’t want to be a lowly Omega either. If anyone gets matched to play against her, don’t take it too seriously. After all, she’s Benjamin’s mate. I should at least save Benjamin a little face.”
