Sarah’s POV

I caught Elena’s warning glance and immediately understood. My maternal instincts instantly kicked in. This wasn’t a conversation for little ears.
“Sweetheart,” I said gently, stroking Aria’s hair, “why don’t you go to your room for a bit? Mommy needs to talk with Aunt Elena.”
“But-” Aria’s small fingers gripped my sleeve tighter, her eyes wide with lingering fear.
The bond between us was almost tangible, like an invisible thread connecting our hearts.
I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Just for a little while. I’ll come tuck you in soon, I promise. And tomorrow, we’ll spend the whole day together, okay?”
She hesitated, then nodded reluctantly. “Promise?”
“Cross my heart,” I whispered, making the gesture over my chest. My wolf might be gone, but the fierce protection I felt for my daughter burned stronger than any animal instinct ever could. If my wolf had still been with me, she would have been pacing anxiously, demanding I shield my pup from whatever had hurt Elena.
Once the bedroom door clicked shut behind her, I turned back to Elena, my expression hardening. “Tell me what happened.”
Elena shrugged with practiced nonchalance, adjusting her scarf. “Just a small injury. It’s nothing.”
“Tell me anyway,” I insisted, my voice low but firm.
She leaned against the balcony doorframe, moonlight casting half her face in shadow.
“The night you disappeared, I suspected Queenie had something to do with it. So I went to confront her directly.
“And she did this to you?” I gestured toward her marked face, anger simmering in my blood.
Elena scoffed, her eyes flashing with cold amusement. “She doesn’t have the power to do this to me.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”
“She refused to tell me where you were and started taunting me.” Elena’s lips curled into a smirk. “Did she honestly think I was some harmless little she–wolf? When I get angry, people suffer consequences.”
“So…” Her eyes glittered with mischief.
“I did this to myself and framed her for it. Made a big enough scene that she got confined to quarters for two months.“She looked disappointed. “Got off too easy, if you ask me.”
I raised my thumb in approval, genuinely impressed by her cunning. “Brilliant move.”
Elena rolled her eyes. “Enough flattery. Your turn. Who did that to your hand?”

I downplayed the events of the past few days, giving her just enough information to satisfy her curiosity without causing unnecessary worry.
Still, Elena’s expression grew increasingly grave as I spoke.
“Queenie and Suzanna may be young,” she said darkly, “but they have the souls of vipers.”
“I won’t let this slide,” she added, her voice taking on a dangerous edge. “Not this time.”
I reached out, gently squeezing her shoulder to calm her rage. “Don’t. We don’t have proof yet, and their family connections would make it a losing battle for us.”
“Besides,” I continued, thinking of the broader implications, “Queenie isn’t someone to underestimate. After the stunt you pulled, she’s probably already plotting her revenge. She won’t let this go easily.”
If it really was Suzanna who came after me…
I wouldn’t let that go either.
But I kept that thought to myself—
Because I didn’t want Elena to worry,
and I sure as hell didn’t want her dragged into this mess.
Elena was smart, no doubt.
But Queenie was Alpha David’s sister, and they were close.
“Elena,” I said earnestly, “since I’m back safely, let’s consider this Chapter closed. Don’t go after Queenie again.

I met her eyes directly.
“You need to be more careful now. She’s Alpha David’s sister–you’ll inevitably cross paths with her. I’m worried she might try to sabotage what you and Alpha David have built.”
Elena nodded, clearly having already considered these angles. “Don’t worry. I can handle her. Queenie isn’t as formidable as she thinks.”
