Sarah’s POV

“Alexander…” I managed to choke out.
Then his expression darkened further.
In one swift movement, his large hand grabbed the collar of my shirt and began dragging me out of the room without a word.
I stumbled as he pulled me into the hallway. Fighting back tears, I said, “Alexander, I know I was wrong.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?” His laugh was brief, just two short sounds.
The next second–SLAM!
My body was roughly pinned against the wall. Alexander loomed over me, his laughter completely gone, dark eyes blazing with fury. “Does ‘sorry‘ fix anything?”
“Or is it because Thea Blackwood isn’t your child, so you don’t care? You think a casual apology is enough after what you’ve done?”
The pain in my heart was excruciating. “It’s not like that.”
“Then what is it like? She was with you for half a day, and you nearly got her killed!”
His eyes bore into mine with intense rage. “What did you feed her? Ice cream, hmm?”
“Didn’t you know her body is weak? That she can’t have cold foods?”
I trembled under his verbal assault, eyes brimming with tears that threatened to fall at the slightest movement. “I’m sorry, I really didn’t know…”
“You didn’t know?” Alexander sneered, making no attempt to hide the contempt in his eyes. “If you knew nothing, why did you go near her?”
“Why do you keep involving yourself with her again and again?”
“What can you do for her besides cause trouble? Besides hurt her? Besides almost get her killed?”
“STAY AWAY FROM HER!” he roared.
The thought of Thea nearly dying sent a bloodthirsty gleam into Alexander’s eyes, his face terrifyingly dark with rage. “Sarah Winters, are you listening?”
“Stay the fuck away from my niece!”
My breath caught in my throat, and for a moment even my heartbeat seemed to stop. Then, as if a dam had broken, hot tears began streaming down my face.

They fell one by one, burning trails down my cheeks as I sagged against the wall. “I’m so sorry,” I choked out.” It’s all my fault. Please, can you not make me leave now? Let me stay until Thea wakes
up.‘
“I promise, as soon as she wakes up, as soon as I see she’s alright, I’ll go immediately.”
“Not necessary!” he growled, pointing down the hallway. “Get out. NOW!”
When Alexander turned cruel, he never held back. I forced my eyes wide open, desperately trying to hold back my tears. “I’ll… I’ll go now.”
“If Thea asks for me when she wakes up, just tell her that Auntie Sarah is very busy right now, but she’ll come see her when she can.”
Alexander’s POV
I said nothing more, my dark eyes locked onto her. Onto those tear–filled eyes that somehow managed to pierce through my fury.
Despite the cold rage still coursing through my veins, something twisted painfully in my chest at the sight of her tears.
Sarah wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, then bent forward in a deep bow that made my wolf stir uncomfortably within me.
