Chapter 1409: Unexpected

The universe was vast and immense.

No one, especially the people of the middle planes, could accurately tell how long the universe had been.

People of different types, races, and groups littered all of creation. At this point, it was hard, if not impossible, to accurately keep track of their numbers.

As innumerable as these races and groups were, so were their power systems and abilities. While many shared similarities, others were wildly different from the rest.

Regardless of their differences, every path led to the same end, a single, perfected expression of power. An ultimate move.

It was something one had practiced and refined for the better part of their life. It was the one line that separated the elite from the normal.

It was rare, if not impossible, for a single person, especially one who hadn’t lived for even a century, to bear multiple ultimate moves.

It was simply the norm. While Will had blurred out the importance of normal abilities, the rules still hadn’t changed.

Which was why, as the two words reached the ears of the charging Sentinel, he felt his pulse stop.

’What is... this?’

A feeling of danger engulfed his entire form, like he had been doused with icy water.

’He had more hidden cards...?’

More ultimate moves? How was this possible?

Elemental fusion was something even those in the Span struggled to achieve, especially one so seamless.

The Sentinel felt the world slow. But it wasn’t that his perception had just increased. No.

The Sentinel watched, wide eyed, as Atticus slowly unsheathed his katana, then vanished.

A purple storm replaced his position, roaring to life with such intensity that it slammed into the Sentinel with crushing weight. He was hurled back, shooting across the skies.

’What is this power?’

He struggled to place it.

The storm had engulfed him from all sides. Though they had taken all light from the world, Solvath was a primordial star. Fragment or not, its glow could not be stolen by the likes of them.

’The artifact still works.’

Still, even as Solvath’s power surrounded him, his armor and weapon held strong.

’There is another...’ He sensed it immediately. It was an inferior energy source, mana, but it bore so much strength it made him wary.

’Another technique,’ the Sentinel realized. Somehow, more powerful than the elements.

How was this possible? How could there be something stronger than combining four elements?

The Sentinel’s hair rose.

’He comes.’

The storm converged around him, formless slashes materializing in every direction.

"Armor," he commanded. The darkness surged to protect him, but his eyes widened in the next second.

’They carve through...’

Another impossibility. How had this energy pierced his darkness? He should be stronger! Faster!
