Betrayed By Husband And Son: Rise Of A Billionaire Wife novel Chapter 14

Adele ~

I don't think anything more insane could ever happen to me.

A contract to marry him?! As if that wasn't mad enough, he would pay me two billion upfront, but didn't specify how much I'd receive after the year ended.

You heard right.

Detroit West, as his name was written in the contract, wanted me to be his wife for one year. The contract further stated that he had a seven year old daughter, but I wasn't required to act as her mother. It again added that intercourse was of my own accord.

Detroit gave me full freedom to live my life as I saw fit. He wanted nothing other than to stand by his side whenever the need arose and smile for the camera.

This man that seemed more dangerous than Ryan wasn't clipping my wings. He was putting me out there.

When he complimented my work and suggested I stepped onto the bigger stage, hell! I was stunned dumb.

It was surreal. No, everything was surreal.

My life had not only tilted to the side but had summersaulted.

I said no, not because I wasn't tempted. It was because I wasn't ready yet. I needed to get this resort first. Perhaps, after that, and if there was enough capital left, then I could take a step into that direction that he suggested.

Giving him a condition was to test his patience. Ryan would have called me insatiable glutton for wanting more. But when I gave him the condition, I was under subtle panic, afraid that he'd chastise me. But he didn't.

He agreed and the way I broke into a smile. I swear, it was the best smile I ever flashed.

Now that he was gone, and I was alone in my room, I stared down at the document that now had both our signatures. His signature was mysterious and bold, while mine was neat, curvy, and artistic.

“Adele, this is were you take the wheel of your life and steer it in the right direction. You can do this.” I told myself, took a deep breath and closed the document.

He promised to send a car to get me tomorrow. All I had to do now was to sleep, so I didn't wake up tomorrow looking like a panda.

However, I already knew that I wouldn't be sleeping the whole night.

Anytime I tried to close my eyes, I heard my brain singing, “Adele, you're a billionaire now. You're richer than Ryan.”

But I knew it was not time to confront Ryan yet. I had to grow stronger, both mentally, and in the business world.

I must make sure to look better than Julia, so when Ethan saw me on TV, he would cry and beg to come live with me.

My lips curled as I pictured those two kneeling and kowtowing while I stood with my chin up and shoulders squared.

It was refreshing. And with that, sleep claimed me.

By the time I woke up the next day, it was afternoon.

“Oh shit!” I cursed and jumped out of bed, almost falling as my limbs got tangled in the sheets.

I snuck a glance at the clock on the wall as I untangled myself from the sheets. It was almost 2 p.m.! I had a ton of things to do before the car arrived to take me to meet Detroit.

He said the car would be here by 5 p.m.
