Chapter 444: The Clash of Pure Mana

Michael chuckled.

"You fool. Do you think you can kill me? I am no man, no king. I am a servant of the goddess herself! A god’s vessel! I am death to a devil like you!" He sneered, raising his hand.

All at once, the Death Walkers collapsed to the ground like puppets with their strings cut.

Their bodies convulsed, writhing as Michael sucked the essences from their corpses, binding them into himself.

A forbidden technique that the church had been keeping hidden.

The air grew heavy, black with despair.

Xion’s eyes widened. "The statue of that scary goddess... it was you."

Michael’s white hair grew long, his features twisting. Long arms appeared from his back, raising him higher until he was face-to-face with levitating Xion.

For the first time, he resembled the human-eating stone idol perfectly, except that the gender was wrong.

Michael’s sleeve snapped like a whip, and a violent blast sent Darius flying miles away.

He crashed into the ground with a heavy thud. His body rolled before coming to a stop.

"Your Grace!" Ray yelled, running toward Darius.

The heat of such powerful mana left a searing touch on their skin. At this rate, they might end up burning to death.

He had yet to see Allen.

For the first time, the knight commander Ray was afraid to die.

So was Xion.

He was using the angel’s magic with the human’s body. He had no clue how long he could last. Minutes, or maybe seconds?

Before that, he needed to kill Michael.

Adrenaline surged in his veins as he rushed forward, blasting Michael with all his power.

White and golden clashed heavily in the dim sky.

They twisted into each other, merging and then blasting off, sending shockwaves through the entire earth.

The plants died, rotting and then burning to ashes. The corpses of the dead weren’t well off either.

Noxian was quick to dose them with water he got from water flasks.

The soldiers were quick to take shelter behind the mud walls of the broken houses in the vicinity.

Ray dragged Noxian while calling for the Archduke.

But Darius ignored them all.

His hands burned red from the blistering heat of such pure mana.

Yet he forced himself forward, step by agonizing step. His eyes were fixed only on Xion. His baby.

His Xion was scared. He could see it.

He needed to hold his terrified baby in his arms.

He needed to soothe him. To tell him everything was fine. To tell him he was back.

When Michael noticed Darius crawling into his attack field, his lips curled. "How touching... If you don’t stop now, Xion, I’ll burn your darling Darius alive."

Xion’s hand halted mid-air.

In that instant, all his adrenaline wore off, and he floated down like a broken feather.

It was over just like that.

The shimmering wings vanished into tiny dots of white light, flying in the dim evening.

His sword slipped from his fingers, clattering uselessly to the ground. His knees buckled, and he collapsed, gasping for breath.

Unlike Xion’s exhausted body, Michael’s dripped blood.

Xion’s fury was no joke to bear.

His precious long arms were gone. His years of research were torn apart without any mercy.

But his face glowed with twisted joy.

He grasped Xion’s chin, tilting his pale face upward to see that obedient look in those glassy blue eyes.

"Good pet," he purred. "I will fix you so perfectly."

His gaze was filled with warped worship, as if he alone were the god Xion should serve.

Xion’s body lurched at the touch, bile rising in his throat.

Despite a whole lifetime, that touch still disgusted him.

All of a sudden, he smiled.

Before Michael could wonder why, a sword pierced his chest, this time driving straight through his heart.

For Serena was no mere puppet. Her chest held his other true heart, the trigger that bound every Death Walker.
