Chapter 21

Charlotte

The roar of the waterfall drowns out everything else, except for the pounding in my chest. The sharp burn of my lungs from running forces me to draw in ragged breaths, and I try not to focus on Theo’s body pressed against mine.

Cornered, Little Cricket,he drawls, his voice rough velvet/But I think you like it.

I should unwrap his arm from my body and push away from him. But I don’t. I steady my breath and wait for his next move. Suddenly, he spins me in his arms. Caging me against he wall beneath the waterfall. His eyes glow faintly, but not black. No, now they are burning emberred. Demonic. Dangerous. Yet something in my chest tugs me toward him instead of recoiling.

You chased me for fun?My voice is breathless.

His smirk deepens. You needed to remember what it feels like to be hunted. To want to fightor to want to surrender.

Theo’s hand braces beside my head, caging me against the rock. Heat radiates from him, burning through the chill of the falls. I can feel the whisper of his power curling in the air between us, a temptation that promises both ruin and relief.

You’re infuriating,I hiss, though the tremor in my voice betrays me

And yetHe dips his head lower, his lips brushing the damp line of my throat, his breath hot against my skin. you’re trembling for me.”

A shiver shoots through me, sharp and traitorous. My fingers curl against his bare chest, meaning to push him instead I drag him closer. His answering growl is low and rough, vibrating through his chest.

He lingers there, at the hollow of my throat, not taking, not demanding, just waiting. Testing and teasing me.

You should walk away,I whisper. We should both walk away.

Theo chuckles darkly, lips grazing my skin like a threat. I should. But we both know I won’t.

I swallow, feeling the bob of my neck against his lips. I thought you said you weren’t the right choice.

away, but

His lips press against my skin, parting slightly. The points of his teeth drag along my neck, and my back arches against him. A whimper is on my lips, and I don’t have time to be embarrassed.

I am not the right choice,he reminds me. But that doesn’t mean I can stay away from you.”

His tongue swipes the water off my skin, and he lifts me out of the water, exposing my naked body. My breasts are pressed against his chest, and goosebumps rise along my skin. No longer masked by the water, the scent of my arousal fills the air, and Theo’s eyes burn brighter.

With only the fabric of his sweats between us, I grind shamelessly on his length. He purrs against my skin while his teeth drag blood to the surface.

You taste divine,he groans.

My eyes widen. My mind is screaming for me to push him away, but the way his tongue curls in the nap of my neck keeps me rooted in his arms.

Are you tasting my blood?I can’t help but rasp against him.

Mhmm,he moans.

The warmth from his hands runs down my back, and he wraps my legs around his waist. The cool rocks against my back, and the warmth of his skin against my chest is driving me insane.

Theo,I breathe out. I

He pulls away from me and smiles with the remnants of my blood staining his teeth. What’s wrong, Little Cricket?

I squirm in his arms, desperate to create some muchneeded friction between his legs. His hands wrap under my bottom, and his fingers graze against my

core.

I should deny his touch, knowing he is only here to play with me, but my body is a traitorous bitch. We should stop,” I manage to squeak out, but Theo isn’t listening.

Theo’s other hand slides up my body to my jaw, tilting my chin up. His thumb traces along the line of my throat, where my pulse beats far too fast. You can’t lie to me, Charlotte,he murmurs. Your heart betrays you every time I touch you. You want this as much as I do.

I lean into his touch, tilting my head back further. I need to feel more, and Theo’s teasing is making me weak.

Stop playing games,I whisper, though it comes out weak, almost pleading.
