Chapter 7
Charlotte
“You still haven’t told me your name?”
I look over at Jake. His knuckles are white as he grips the steering wheel. It is almost as if he is nervous.
“Charlotte, but people that I like call me Lotte.”
Jake is worrying his bottom lip with his teeth. “Can I call you Lotte?”
I scoff as I look out the window. “That is to be determined.”

He glances in my direction before turning down a long gravel road. Tala is stirring in my mind. ‘We won’t be welcomed onto any pack territory.
I breathe in a sigh. I know she is right. I am positive my scent is beginning to fade, and I won’t be able to hide the fact that I am a rogue.
“I think this is a bad idea,” I blurt out.
Jake hits the brakes and turns to me. “I would never put you in danger.”
His blue eyes are burning with intensity, and I have to look away. This man barely knows me, and he is willing to put himself on the line to protect me. “If I become a problem, I will leave.”
He shifts awkwardly in his seat before turning his attention back to the road. “That won’t be necessary.”
The road to Southpaw territory is bumpy, and I have to fight to keep my nerves in check. The trees that line the road become scarce, and soon, little houses begin to line the road. My eyes are glued to the emerging pack that is laid out before me. It is different than Blackthorn. None of these houses are run down, like the one my mother and I shared. No. It would appear that the Alpha of the Southpaw Pack cares about his members.
Jake comes to a stop in front of a large plantation–style home that I assume is the pack house. He doesn’t give me a moment to protest or to ask him to turn around. He is out of the car faster than I can speak, pulling my only piece of luggage from
the trunk
Reluctantly, I step out of the car and notice a man standing on the house steps. His eyes are narrowed in my direction, but not out of anger. The slight tilt of his head lets me know he is merely curious.
He gracefully walks down the stairs, and as he approaches me, I can feel his Alpha Aura attempting to wash over me. The hairs at the base of my neck prickle at the feeling, but I do not feel the urge to submit. I do anyway, cocking my head to the side, exposing my neck. I am a guest here. An unwanted guest. It wouldn’t be smart for me to make waves.
“You have the aura of a Luna.” His words catch me off guard, and my mouth falls open.
I shake my head. “I am the daughter of Daniel Drevon, the late Delta of the Blackthorn Pack. I am no Luna.”
He studies me for a moment longer. “I am Alpha Luca”
I nod my head respectfully “I promise not to be a burden. I will leave as soon as I find proper lodging in the rogue cities.”
He looks over my shoulder at Jake. “She does not smell like a rogue.”
My forehead wrinkles. “That isn’t possible. I left the Blackthorn pack”
Alpha Luca looks down at my father’s box that is still clutched in my arms. His eyes grow wide. “You do not need to live as a

My eyes flutter down to the box in my hands, and I wonder if everyone knows what it is except me. I dare to look behind me at Jake, and he is grinning stupidly. There is something endearing and irritating about his happiness. Instead of dwelling on his attitude, I roll my eyes and turn away.
“I will earn my keep.” I tell Alpha Luca. “I can work as an Omega in the kitchens. I have been working at a diner since I was fourteen years old.”
Alpha Luca scoffs. “You will do no such thing. You will continue your Delta training.”
My cheeks flush with embarrassment. “I was never trained to be a Delta. I don’t even have a proper education…” My voice. fades away.
A growl rumbles behind me, and Jake drops my suitcase to the ground. I spin to look at him, thinking he has finally turned into the serial killer I expected him to be, but his eyes are glued to the front porch.
