Bound By Moonlight to My Mates (by Sofange Daye) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Once Jake returned me to my room in the early morning, I found it difficult to settle my nerves. Even after a shower that was too long. I still felt ill at ease. Wrapped only in a towel, I flopped down on my bed. Sleep came, but I was restless. Odd dreams plagued my sleep, hands roamed over my body, and faceless men hovered over me. Their mouths captured mine, taking turns bringing me to the edge of pleasure before backing off, leaving me unsatisfied.

My eyes fly open after the last dream, and there is a dull ache between my legs. I press my thighs together, hoping to gain some sort of release, but it is futile.

Are you going to explain what is going on?I take my frustration out on Tala.

She remains silent in my head, only making my anger grow. You aren’t ready!

I scoff aloud. Who are you to say what I am ready for?

My bedroom door swings open, and a mess of brown curls peeks around it. Pulling the blankets over my chest, I turn my attention away from my wolf. Can I help you?

A girl about my age bounds into my room, slamming the door shut behind her. She joins me on my bed as if she has known me forever, climbing under the covers. I stare at her, trying to figure out who the fuck she is. Instead of acknowledging how weird this is, she pulls her phone out and begins to scroll through a social media feed.

I turn on my side and look at her carefully. She must be Alpha Luca’s daughter; the resemblance is strong between them. I clear my throat, and she glances my way. She wrinkles her nose. You don’t smell like a rogue.”

I’m sorry?

She giggles before turning back to her phone. Don’t be. They smell horrid. You, on the other hand, smell like vanilla. It is a nice scent, unlike my overpowering floral scent. Dad says it will attract a strong mate, but I don’t want a mate at all. They are overrated. I would rather live carefree with a string of lovers. Both men and women

The words tumble from her mouth like she hasn’t spoken to anyone in months. She is speaking so quickly that I have a hard time keeping up, but instead of interrupting her, I just nod my head and hum under my breath.

What is your name? She asks, but doesn’t give me a moment to answer. My name is Leah. Gods, I hate my name. I wish my parents had named me something cooler, likeI don’t know. All I know is that I hate Leah. Come on, Alpha. There are twentysix letters in the alphabet. Do all of our names have to start with an L? Can I buy a vowel?

I can’t help but laugh at her. She is funny and appears to be nicer than Lucian. She stops talking and watches me as I laugh. You are really pretty.

This time, she gives me a moment to speak. Thanks. My name is Charlotte, but you can call me Lotte if you want.

Leah wrinkles her nose. Absolutely not. The last thing we need is another L name around here.”

She turns back to her phone, snapping a few selfies. I watch her quietly, before the questions in my head become too much.. Why are you here?

Leah turns back to me, rolling her eyes. Daddy said a woman suitable enough to be Lucian’s mate had entered the pack house. I had to come check you out for myself.” Her eyes graze up and down my body. You are too good for my brother.

I flop onto my back. I am not looking for another mate.

A squeal escapes her lips, and she sits up. I knew it! You are running from a mate. You are like me.

It is my turn to roll my eyes. I am not running from anything. Alpha Ronan rejected me, so I left the Blackthorn Pack.

She sighs loudly. The Alpha Ronan. I know I said I didn’t want a mate, but I would bend over for him anytime.

I shove my jealousy to the side. You can have him.

You don’t mean that, she laughs. I can tell.”

He is cruel,” I almost growl. I pity any woman who ends up his mate.”

She turns toward me and stares into my eyes. What about Jake?

Something about his name causes a lump to form in the back of my throat. I swallow hard, attempting to push it down. He

is nice.”

He slept outside of your room last night, she chirps. I think he likes you.

What?I breathe out.

Yeah, she continues. I almost tripped over him when I decided to come visit you. His massive brown wolf was taking up the whole hallway.

I pretend not to care. He was probably just making sure I don’t run off to rogue territory again.Leah’s eyes widen, and she covers her hand with her mouth. Do you have a death wish?
