After Zenith finished the drink, she set the glass on the table and gave a polite smile to everyone.
"It’s getting quite late," she checked the time on her watch and added, "Let me go and give a call to sir. I am sure he must be on his way here. But still, I will ask him once."
The men nodded with a smile, and Zenith grabbed her phone before rising to her feet. She didn’t turn to leave the room; instead, she went to a corner to make the call.
The ring went through immediately; however, Ryan didn’t answer. She called back again, but still, he didn’t receive.
By the third time, her head started feeling heavy. She reached up to massage the side of her forehead gently, but with every passing second, her forehead only felt heavier and heavier.
Suddenly, she felt something move around the back just above her hips. She jerked and turned to look, only to see one of the partners just behind her with his hand on her back.
"What’s wrong, Ms. Zane? Is everything alright?" He asked as though genuinely concerned.
Zenith stepped back, creating the distance between them. "It’s nothing. Just a mild headache. It will go away soon."
"I won’t," he said, catching with, Zenith frowned.
"Sorry?"
The man shook his head in nothingness before jutting his chin towards the phone.
"What about Mr. Foster?" he asked as if he wasn’t looking for anything but Ryan.
Zenith glanced at her phone, and her brows drew together. She thought for a moment before speaking, her gaze glancing towards all three people in the room. "Ah ... I am not very sure what is happening. I tried calling Sir. But he isn’t picking. If it’s alright with you all, can we reschedule this again?"
The men exchanged gazes, and just when Zenith thought they would speak, they just gave her a nod and agreed as though they were waiting for it.
"Sure!"
"We don’t mind."
"We understand. Something must have kept Mr. Foster occupied. We can reschedule it."
Zenith smiled politely. "Thank you for understanding. Shall I help you arrange the car or driver?"
"No, it’s fine. We will look into arrangements. You don’t have to worry." One of them said, and at his words, Zenith nodded.
Then, checking the time on her watch, she said, "Then I will take my leave first. Thank you." She bowed her head a little in respect, but just as she did, unsteadiness struck her and she staggered.
The man who was standing almost close to her grabbed her by her waist.
"Ms. Zane, are you really alright?"
Although he steadied her, his touch made Zenith feel uncomfortable. She quickly tried to detach herself; however, her limbs moved slowly as though pressed by some invisible weight.
"Thank you. But I am fine. I will take my leave." She felt her head getting light as if she was closing to sleepiness. Feeling something wasn’t right, she didn’t want to linger there for even a moment longer. Her gaze started turning blurry, and her steps ... they were feeling too light, as if they were slowly going numb.
She pinched herself just to stay awake. But that didn’t seem to be working.
