Chapter 197
Aurora’s P.O.V
Once again, I found myself in that dark room, lying on the same bed as last time. My chest tightened as the familiar suffocating air pressed down on me, and I immediately knew–I was dreaming. Or rather, trapped in the same nightmare that had plagued me for the last few days.
My fingers clenched the edge of the bed, the old, scratchy sheets burning against my palms. It was
always this room. My mother’s room.
Every detail was the same–her vanity table cluttered with forgotten trinkets, the faint scent of lavender lingering in the air, her framed picture on the nightstand staring back at me like it knew all
my secrets.
I sat up, trembling, as anger surged through me. “Why are you doing this to me, Mom?” My voice cracked, and I barely recognized the rawness in it. My throat burned as I shouted again, louder this
time.
“Why can’t you just leave me alone? Why can’t anyone leave me alone? Haven’t you done enough?”
The darkness pressed closer, swallowing my words like it always did, and for a moment, I thought it would suffocate me too. My voice rose in desperation, choking on the tears I didn’t want to shed. “Is this your way of tormenting me now? Haunting me in my sleep? Is that what you want? Tell me!”
I didn’t expect an answer. There never was one. The silence mocked me, feeding my frustration and my helplessness.
But then I heard it–a voice. Soft, unmistakably feminine, and eerily calm. It broke through the stillness like a ripple in a stagnant pond.
“Aurora, the voice called, barely above a whisper, but clear enough to make me freeze.
I turned toward the sound, my heart hammering in my chest. “Who’s there?” I demanded, my voice shaking. “Who are you? What do you want from me now?”
The room felt colder, the air heavier, and yet, that voice persisted, steady and almost soothing.
“Aurora…”
I swallowed hard, panic bubbling inside me. My feet refused to move, as if some invisible force was anchoring me to the bed.
“Say something!” I shouted, “If you’re going to haunt me too, at least tell me who you are!”

The voice didn’t answer immediately, and I hated how my mind raced to fill the silence. Was it my mom? Was it someone else? Or was it just another cruel trick my subconscious had cooked up to break me further?
The voice came again, softer now, almost gentle. “Aurora… listen.”
“Listen to what?” I snapped, my frustration boiling over. “To be more silent? To more pain? I’ve had enough! Just leave me alone already!”
The voice didn’t fade, though. It grew steadier, insistent. “Aurora… it’s time.”
“Time for what?” I whispered, though the anger hadn’t left me. “What more do you want from me?”
This time, the voice didn’t answer, but I could feel something shift. The room seemed to close in, and for the first time in this recurring nightmare, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know what came next.
The sound hit me like a lightning bolt–soft, almost a whisper, but unmistakably clear this time.
“Aurora.”
My breath caught in my throat. “Mom?” My voice cracked as I turned toward the direction of the
sound. It couldn’t be. Could it?
“Mom, is that you?” I called out, louder this time, my heart hammering against my chest.
There was a pause–a silence so thick it almost swallowed me whole–then I saw it. A shadow, faint but unmistakable, in the far corner of the room.
“Mom!” I shouted, taking a step forward. My feet felt glued to the ground, but I forced them to
move.
“It’s me! It’s Aurora!”
But the shadow shifted, as if recoiling from my approach. “No! Don’t come here!” The voice was
sharp, desperate.
I froze, my hands trembling at my sides. “What? Why? Mom, it’s me! Why can’t I come to you?”
“Because you can’t!” she cried, her voice breaking. I could hear it–raw, filled with something that felt like regret and panic all at once.
“You have to run, Aurora. You have to get out of here!”
“Run? From what? Mom, what’s going on? Who am I running from?” My words tumbled out, frantic and fast. None of this made sense. She couldn’t be here–this wasn’t even possible–but she was, and she was telling me to run?

The shadow flickered, as though it were fighting against some unseen force. And then she started to
cry.
“I’m so sorry,” she said, her sobs twisting every syllable. “I never wanted this for you. I never wanted you to suffer because of me,”
“What do you mean? Suffer? Mom, please, talk to me! I can help you. We can figure this out together!” I stepped forward again, determined this time, but the shadow seemed to ripple resistance, like it was begging me to stay away,
“You can’t help me, Aurora.” Her voice was quieter now, the weight of her despair pressing down on
me like a physical force.
“But you can help yourself. Please, just go. Don’t look back. Don’t let them find you.”
“Who’s ‘them‘? Mom, what aren’t you telling me?!” My throat tightened, and I could feel the sting of tears welling up in my eyes. “You’re scaring me! Please, just let me come to you!”
“No! Stay away!” Her voice sounded desperate now. “Run, Aurora! It’s almost time!”
The room felt heavy, like the air itself was pressing down on me. I stared at her, unable to comprehend the urgency in her eyes. “I don’t understand, Mom,” I said, my voice trembling.
“What are you talking about? How are you even here? You’re-” I stopped myself, the word “gone” sticking in my throat.
