Chapter 272
Caleb’s P.O.V

I didn’t know how long it took to head back, especially with Aurora in my arms, cradled tight so I didn’t lose her warmth. My body was screaming at me to collapse, to give in to the overwhelming exhaustion that had wrapped itself around my bones. Every step
toward Alpha Jackson’s packhouse felt like walking through quicksand, my limbs heavy, my breath shallow. But I couldn’t stop. The others needed help, and if I gave in now,
might not have the strength to bring them the rest of the way.
Silvia was slumped against me, her small frame limp, her face still damp with the tears that had drained her of consciousness. I had held her as she sobbed, whispered
reassurances I wasn’t sure I believed myself. Her cries had been so broken, so raw, that it
had shattered whatever was left of my strength, but I refused to let her go. I owed her
that much.
The others were still unconscious, their bodies battered and weakened from the blood loss. It wasn’t just exhaustion–it was survival hanging by a thread. I could hear their shallow breaths, feel their fragile pulses when I checked. It was enough to keep me moving, but the fear clawed at me, a relentless whisper in the back of my mind. What if it wasn’t enough? What if we had come this far only for them to slip away?
No! I held Aurora’s form tighter to my body. I wasn’t going to let her slip away. No
matter what happened.
By the time we reached the packhouse, I barely had the strength to speak. Alpha Jackson’s healers were already waiting, their sharp eyes scanning over us, assessing the damage. I saw the moment their expression hardened, the weight of understanding settling into their minds. Alpha Jackson wasted no time barking orders, calling for their healer, for his people to help carry the wounded inside,
I exhaled sharply as one of the healers took Aurora from me, and though every instinct screamed at me to hold on, I let her go. She was safe now. I had to believe that,
Silvia came next, and the healers had to coax her to let go of me so that they could take her inside. She finally went, but the defeat in her features tugged at my heartstrings.

Chapter 272
:
Alpha Jackson placed a firm hand on my shoulder, grounding me, pulling me back from the fog threatening to consume me. “You did good, Caleb,” he said, his voice steady. “Now let us take care of the rest.”
I wanted to argue, to insist that I could still help, but the moment I tried to take a step forward, the world tilted violently, and I barely managed to catch myself. I was spent. There was nothing left in me to give.
The healer worked quickly, moving between the others with practiced efficiency. My vision blurred, exhaustion dragging at my limbs, but I forced myself to stay upright, to watch as they treated my mate and the others we had rescued, even the injured packmates.
Time lost meaning as the minutes stretched, the air thick with the scent of herbs and the quiet murmurs of the healer’s incantations. Slowly, their breathing steadied, their color returned. Relief hit me so hard it nearly knocked me off my feet.
Silvia stirred first, a soft, pained whimper leaving her lips as she shifted, blinking up at the unfamiliar surroundings. I was by her side in an instant, my hand finding hers. She clung to me instinctively, her fingers cold and trembling.
“You’re safe,” I murmured, brushing damp strands of hair from her face. “We’re all safe.”
She swallowed hard, her eyes flickering with the remnants of grief and exhaustion. “Are they…?”
I looked down at the ground, unable to meet her eyes. “I’m so sorry.” I didn’t know what else to say, how else to console her, this little girl who had just lost everything.
Alpha Jackson approached then, his presence a steady force in the chaos of the moment. His gaze lingered on Silvia, something unreadable flashing in his eyes. Then, with a deep breath, he crouched in front of her, his voice gentle but firm.
“You’re part of this family now, Silvia,” he said, and her breath caught. “You’ve been through enough. I won’t let you suffer any longer. From this day forward, you are my daughter. You will have a home here. A family. A future.”
Silvia’s lips parted, but no sound came out. She simply stared at him, disbelief warring

with something far more fragile–hope. Tears welled in her eyes, but this time, they weren’t born of grief. She turned to me as if searching for confirmation that this was real, and I nodded.
