“Thank you,” I whispered into the quiet, my voice barely above the sound of the rain.

Caroline’s hand found mine under the covers, giving it a gentle squeeze. “You’re my sister, Aurora. Chosen by the Moon Goddess herself. I’ll always know when something’s wrong.” She paused, her voice softer now. “And I’ll always be here to make sure you’re alright.”

I closed my eyes, warmth spreading through my chest. The storm outside still raged, but in this moment, with Riley’s even breaths beside me and Caroline’s unwavering presence, I knew I wasn’t alone. And that made all the

difference.

As I lay there, wrapped in the warmth of the moment, I turned to Caroline, my heart swelling with gratitude. The day had been long, filled with too many emotions, but in the end, it was her presence that grounded me. She had been my rock in ways no one else ever could, always knowing exactly what to say, how to hold me together when I felt like I was falling apart. deserve it. You’re the most amazing sister in the world.” Caroline’s eyes shimmered in the dim light, and she let out a quiet, breathy laugh, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe this moment was real.

My breath hitched, and I blinked rapidly to push back the sting of tears threatening to fall. I didn’t deserve someone like her, yet here she was, telling me she felt the same about me. I let out a small, shaky laugh, rubbing at my eyes before she could see the tears. “You know, you’re going to make me cry,” I muttered, half–laughing, half–sniffling.

“Caroline, you have no idea how much that means to me, I murmured, turning fully to face her, my voice soft but unwavering. “But if we’re talking about amazing sisters, then you should know–you’re the sister I never had but always needed. I don’t think I would have survived half of what I’ve been through if it weren’t for you. The Moon Goddess didn’t just bind me to you. She gave me the family I was missing.”

“Oh shush! We’re both about to fill a river.” Caroline sniffled, reaching out to brush a strand of hair away from my face. “Well, you started it,” she teased, her voice teasing but filled with nothing but warmth. “Now, get some sleep before you turn this into an all–night sob–fest.”

I let out a soft chuckle and finally let my body relax. Between us, Riley was already sound asleep, his small, steady breaths filling the space with a peaceful rhythm. Caroline adjusted the blanket over him, her movements gentle, protective. I watched her for a moment, something deep in my chest settling in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time. Safe. Loved. Whole.

“Goodnight, Caroline,” I murmured, my voice heavy with exhaustion but lighter than it had been in days.

She smiled, her fingers brushing lightly over Riley’s hair before turning to face me once more, ‘Goodnight, Aurora.
