Chapter 50

Caleb’s POV

The moment I stepped out of the diner, my pulse was already hammering. I didn’t know what I expected to find, but it sure as hell wasn’t diss. The park was nearly empty, the crisp night air settling in, and yet, there he wascasually swinging like he belonged here, live he had every right to be in my territory

Damien.

His dark eyes gleamed with amusement, the corners of his lips lifting into that irritating smirk as he regarded me. My hands curled into fists at my rides, and I felt my wolf stir restlessly within me, already on edge.

Why the hell are you sneaking around and following me? My voice was sharp, barely restraining the growl beneath it. My patience for him was nonexistent on a good day, and tonight? After everything? I wasn’t in the mood for his bullshit. Or are you just looking for an excuse to start a fight?

Damien let out a low chuckle, tilting his head back slightly as if this entire situation was amusing to him. Relax, Caleb, he drawled, pushing off the swing and standing to his full height. I have no such intentions. But I have to admit, he paused, letting his smirk wides, his eyes glinting with something sharp, it was quite the sightwatching a proud bastard like you grovel at a human girl’s feet, Didn’t know you had it in you.

A growl tore through my chest before I could stop it. My entire body tensed, the anger burning through me like wildfire. I wasn’t groveling, I snapped, my teeth clenched so tightly it hurt. And you have no business being here. This is my pack’s territory. My muscles coiled, my wolf ready to strike if he gave me the slightest reason. He was pushing me, baiting me, and the worst part was that it was working.

But Damien? He only chuckled again, shaking his head like I was some foolish child throwing a tantrum. Territory, territory, he mused, waving a dismissive hand. Always so damn territorial, Caleb. But don’t worry, I’m not here to cause trouble, Justobserving. His gaze locked onto mine, and for the first time, the amusement in his eyes darkened into something unreadable. And you? You’re more interesting than I thought.”

My jaw tightened, my breath steady despite the fury thrumming inside me. Stay the hell away from me,I warned, voice low and dangerous. And stay the hell away from her.”

Damien merely smirked again, taking a slow step back, like he had all the time in the world.

We’ll see about that.He let out a laugh and motioned at the wooden bench nearby. Have a seat, will you?

Any other day, I would’ve thrown a fist by now, but today was different. He was dangerously close to Aurora and I wasn’t leaving his sight until I had personally escorted him out of my territory.

I sat on the edge of the wooden bench, my fingers gripping the seat as I watched Damien with wary eyes. He leaned against the rusted chains of the swing, a small smirk playing on his lips, looking like he had all the time in the world. I exhaled sharply, already exhausted before he even spoke.

It may be surprising to you,he admitted, his voice even, unreadable. But I was only here to submit the paperwork to your school about the match. Coach is sick, so I had to handle it in his stead. His gaze flicked to me, assessing, amused. And in the process, I got to see something interesting.

I tensed. There it washis usual cryptic nonsense. What the hell do you really want, Damien?I asked, my voice edged with frustration. Why do you keep bugging me all the damn time? What’s your deal?

He let out a low chuckle, finally pushing himself off the swing and stepping closer, forcing me to tilt my head up to meet his gaze. There was something unnervingly calm about him, like he already knew the outcome of something I hadn’t even begun to understand.
