As for today's dinner, it was still the product of Amelia and Patrick working together.
Amelia witnessed Patrick's improvements, but cooking required long-term perseverance, so she did not say anything.
She decided to keep on observing Patrick. How would he behave tomorrow, the day after, the week after?
Could he hold on?
After dinner, Patrick put on the apron and rubber gloves just as he did yesterday and was ready to wash the dishes.
While Amelia was feeling gratified, she also worried that Patrick could not really clean the dishes, so she said, "I'll do the second round."
Patrick happened to have washed his last pair of chopsticks. After hearing Amelia's words, he quickly washed off the foam on the chopsticks with clean water and put it in another basin.
He stopped, then he looked at Amelia and said, "I'll leave the rest to you."
Amelia smiled and answer, "Sure, thank you for your hard work."
Patrick took off his rubber gloves and apron one by one and said, "I'm heading out for a moment."
"You're going out? Where are you going?" Amelia asked.
From her memories, Patrick would not have any social events at night.
It was been so long that she almost forgot that Patrick could be really busy sometimes.
She calculated the date in her heart and noticed that it was not a weekend, so she denied the thought of him meeting Sissi although it was not impossible.
The next second Patrick shocked her with his answer, "Don't overthink. I'm not meeting Sissi or any other woman."
Amelia was stunned for a moment and her eyes seemed to be asking, "How do you know what I am thinking?"
Patrick raised his eyebrows and held back the words that he wanted to say. Her eyes really betrayed her all the time.
He composed himself and said, "I'm leaving, I think I'll be back soon."
Seeing that he had a really good performance tonight, Amelia politely greeted him, "Let me send
you off."
Of course, Patrick would not refuse. "Sure."
The two of them came to the door, as she watched Patrick putting on the shoes she was about to bid goodbye to him...
Out of a sudden, Patrick turned and asked, "Before I leave, is there anything you wanted to tell me?"
"Goodbye?" Amelia did not know what he wanted to hear, so she did not say it firmly.
Patrick said in a deep voice, "Besides this, is there anything else?"
"Be safe along the way?" Amelia asked again.
Patrick curled up his lips in self-mockery. She did not even intend to tell him about Milton's visit today, let alone who was the one that borrowed her car.
He held back the urge to sigh and thought that the third time was the charm. So he asked again, "Are you sure there's nothing else?"
Amelia thought for a moment and said shyly, "Hey, can I ask you for a favour?"
Patrick nodded. "Go ahead."
"I've run out of the sanitary pads. Can you bring a few packs for me when you're on the way back?"
This was one of her tricks. She was asking Patrick to buy things that she did not need at the moment.
After a while, a lazy but mocking tone was heard "Am I dreaming? Is the person who is calling me right now is Mr. Hopper of the Northville, Mr. Patrick of the Hopper Family?"
"Enough chitchat." Patrick stared straight out of his window as if he could see the annoying face of the other party. "Kaiden, if you want to play a revenge game for your cousin, come at me. Don't do anything to Amelia!"
Kaiden went silent on the other side of the phone. Suddenly he laughed out loud. Hethen said, "It's midnight. Why isn't Mr. Patrick asleep yet? What is he talking about? Why do I not understand a single thing?"
"You will understand." Patrick's voice was even colder than the night. "Otherwise, you wouldn't have approached Amelia on purpose."
Kaiden's laughter stopped.
After a while, he sneered and said, "What benefit can I get if I get close to her? Why don't you say that she's the one who approached me?"
Patrick's lips floated. "You approach her because she's my wife. Do you need me to explain to you what you're trying to achieve by doing so?"
Kaiden paused and said, "To be honest, I'm very confused why did you choose to call me tonight? Did Amelia say something to you?"
"We keep no secrets," Patrick said.
Kaiden snorted and said sourly, "It seems that the woman who told you all her secret hid the fact that she lent me her car from you..."
Kaiden was just too young. He was not wise enough to be running circles with Patrick.
"F*ck!"
Patrick held his lips tightly and it took a lot of effort for him to hold back the curse that he was about to let out.
"She did! She told me everything. That's why I called you to tell you to stop troubling her!"
Kaiden, who was on the other end of the line, secretly thought that since Patrick had already known that Amelia had lent him a car, he might as well open it up.
It would be best to anger Patrick and hope he would die from a panic attack.
