"Aunt Alice."
Upon hearing Amelia's greeting, Alice stopped laughing and turned her head to look at her. "Amelia! Where have you been all day? I called you just now, but you didn't answer!"
"Maybe it was because I was on the way just now, so I didn't hear my phone ringing. Sorry to have made you worry." Amelia covered it with an excuse and glanced at the other person.
"Oh, by the way, look who's back!"
As Alice spoke, Brittany's eyes were no longer cheerful. Instead, they were filled with hostility, which Amelia was familiar with.
After looking at Amelia and Brittany, Alice's gaze got back on Brittany. "Brittany, why are you still keeping quiet?"
Brittany's mouth twitched a little as she called out in an inaudible manner, "Amelia."
It was out of her expectation that Brittany greeted her, so Amelia could not help but raised her eyebrows slightly. It seemed that Alice had already taught her in advance.
Amelia responded with a nod. The servant handed her a cup of tea after she had taken a seat. She asked in a casual tone, "Brittany, why did you come back at this time?"
Brittany raised her chin and said in a rude manner, "This is my home. Shouldn't I be able to come back whenever I want?"
Alice was afraid that they would start to argue like before so she hurriedly said to Brittany, "Amelia was just worried about your safety as she saw you coming back alone in the middle of the night."
Brittany pouted her lips. "Don't talk about me. Didn't she doll herself up right after getting divorced and finally returned home in the middle of the night as well? Who knows what she's been up to sneakily?"
"Brittany!" Alice frowned and scolded her, "Are you going to make a mess in the whole family just after you come back?"
"Mom...!"
As Brittany was about to retort, she heard Amelia saying, "Brittany, I asked you why you came back at this time because it's Monday tomorrow and I suppose that you should be attending class at school. Am I right?"
"That's right, Brittany." Alice was just being happy that she had not thought of it until Amelia reminded. "Why did you come back when it's almost Monday but not on Saturday?"
Brittany said gruffly, "Mom, do you think I'm willing to? It's because there was a torrential rain in the South City two days ago. I couldn't take the plane, so I had to ride the high-speed train to come back which took me a lot of time."
"Oh, really?" Amelia put her half-empty cup down and guessed, "Or did you make some trouble outside, so you came home to take refuge, regardless of the time?"
"Nonsense, I didn't!" Brittany glared at her and turned to Alice to complain, "Mom, she wrongly accused me!"
Alice stood firmly, "Brittany, is Amelia's words true?"
Brittany replied angrily, "Mom! Do you not believe me as well? Fine! Since the both of you have suspected me of bringing trouble home, I'll leave now!"
"Brittany!" Seeing that Brittany picked up the luggage by her feet, then stood up and was about to leave, Alice quickly got up to stop her.
Brittany looked away with dignity. "Why are you stopping me? I'm not welcomed in this house anyway. You'd better let me go far away!"
Upon hearing this, Alice looked in pain as she said in a choked voice, "Brittany, how can you say that? Do you know how much my heart hurts when hearing that?"
Brittany was in a fit of pique so she said, "Will your heart hurt? Humph, I guess Amelia is the only daughter left in your heart. Who am I to you?"
Alice was choked with anger and tears welled up in her eyes. She looked very pitiful.
Seeing that Alice was sad, Amelia could not help but frown. "That's enough, Brittany! When you said that I dressed like a doll and sneaked outside, I wasn't as desperate as you were. So what if you were asked that whether you've caused trouble outside? Aunt Alice was concerned about you after all! Why are you still that narrow-minded even after attending college?"
Brittany was unconvinced so she said, "I don't need your fake kindness. It was clearly you who made me quarrel with my mother!"
As soon as Amelia left, Brittany said, "Mom, I'm full.
I'm going to leave as well."
Alice could not help but asked, "Where are you going?"
Brittany's eyes glittered as she said, "I'm going out with a friend for shopping, and maybe a movie."
Alice grumbled, "Since you have the time, why don't you come with me to see your dad?"
The smile on Brittany's face froze. She could not help but asked probingly, "By the way, speaking of dad, is he feeling better? Is it possible for him to speak?"
Alice shook her head in response.
Brittany secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She stood up and said, "I'm sorry, mom. I've promised my friend to go out today. I'll visit dad with you some other day. I'll leave first as lamina hurry."
At the Apex Construction Corporation.
When Amelia was busy with her work, the office phone suddenly rang.
She picked up the handset, put it to her ear and said softly, "Hello, it's me. What's the matter?"
The person on the other side replied, "President Ramsay, I am from the finance department. There is a huge sum of money that was deposited into our company's bank account this morning. It's 100 million dollars."
100 million dollars?
Amelia thought of the only possibility. It should be Sawyer starting to take money out of his pocket.
