"Milton... I had a nightmare again."
Maryanne said it firmly which proved that it was not the first time for it to happen.
Milton explained in a low voice, "Yes, I heard your scream at the door, so I hurried in to have a look."
Maryanne's voice tensed. "Did I talk about anything weird?"
A trace of deepness flashed in Milton's eyes, but his face looked calm. "You've only asked the kidnappers to stay away from you. And, you've pleaded them... not to hurt you."
"Is that so? It seems that I've always dreamt of these..." Maryanne muttered.
Milton looked at her and comforted, "Maryanne, I think you should try to forget the past..."
Maryanne slowly let go of his collar. She stared at her scarred hands, and said in pain, "No, I can't! These scars are reminding me of my previous experiences every day! I won't forget what happened that day even if I die!"
"Maryanne! Calm down..." Feeling that Maryanne's tears had soaked his clothes, Milton patted her back gently like coaxing a child. He repeated
continuously, "You're safe now."
After a while.
Maryanne looked at the man in front of her with her eyes that had turned red from crying. She asked as if she was seeking for help, "Milton, what should I do? When will this nightmare stop pestering me?"
For a moment, Milton became indecisive in his heart when he looked into her eyes which seemed to be filled with mournful wails.
Maryanne always thought that the kidnapping directed by Patrick was her nightmare. But in fact, Milton was her nightmare that she had not woken up from!
Sooner or later, he would abandon her and she would suffer even more by then.
[Maryanne, it's time for the game to end.]
Milton opened his mouth and selfishly wanted to end his relationship with Maryanne at this moment!
He could not wait any longer. Amelia had divorced, and he had the right to pursue her again! If he went back any later, there might be another problem!
However, there came Maryanne's pleading voice on the next second, "Milton, don't ever leave me!"
Milton frowned, "Maryanne..."
Maryanne lowered her eyes slightly and said haltingly, "I'm begging you."
Seeing that she was about to cry again, Milton said in contradiction, "I will be with you to pass through this."
Hearing this, Maryanne immediately put on a smile. The tears in her eyes began to fall as she smiled.
"Promise?"
"Yes." Milton reached out his hand to wipe her tears on her face, and he answered absent-mindedly, "I promise..."
Just as he was about to take his hand away, Maryanne immediately pressed it back onto her face and asked fondly, "What about you stay and sleep with me tonight? I'm afraid to be alone..."
Milton replied promptly and firmly, "No!"
Maryanne said awkwardly, "I promise, we'll just have a chat under the quilt. Nothing will happen..."
Milton drew back his hand from her face regardless. He stood up and said, "We may just leave our doors open tonight. If you need anything, just call me loudly and I'll come over immediately."
Maryanne bit her lower lips and asked softly, "Don't you have any feelings for my body? Am I not your girlfriend?"
In the face of Maryanne's straightforward seduction, Milton was dumbfounded and he quickly said in a serious tone, "You're indeed my girlfriend, so I should respect you more!"
When the two were silent, Milton did not know why he was so attentive that he unexpectedly
remembered to turn off the lights in Maryanne's room before he left.
Meanwhile, it was morning in the Northville.
At Wealth Life Bank.
As soon as Brittany entered the hall, a staff immediately came up to her with a bright smile, "Miss, may I know what kind of service you're here for?"
Brittany came to a sofa nearby and sat on it with her legs crossed. Then she took off the huge sunglasses from her face and said arrogantly, "Ask your manager to come and see me."
The staff replied with the same smile, "Okay, may I have your name, please? I'd like to mention it to the manager."
Brittany raised her delicate face and said somewhat uneasily, "Just say that I am George's second daughter!"
She stressed on the word 'second' deliberately, without knowing that such appellation was funny as well.
"I see." The staff's smile widened as she turned around and left.
Although it was only 9:30 in the morning, there were customers coming in one after another to attend to
their affairs.
Brittany thought for a while and eventually put on her sunglasses so as to not attract the attention of others.
After a while.
A middle-aged man, who looked around his forties but with grey hair, strode towards Brittany under the guidance of the staff who had attended to Brittany.
