Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1280

Amelia was so anxious that she bit his lower lips and asked impatiently as she saw how silent Kaleb and the others were, "Gentlemen, please do not think that you're hiding the truth from me for my benefit, because this will only make me even more worried!"

Kaleb seemed to be somewhat moved by Amelia's attitude and replied with a little bit of difficulty, "Frankly speaking... just recently, some people in the board of directors have argued about President Ramsay's private affairs."

Amelia displayed an expression of understanding. "This, I am aware. Since Patrick and I are already divorced, the board of directors have been very hostile towards me."

"But at that time, only a few people expressed their dissatisfaction towards you secretly. Mr. Quade was the catalyst. Now most of the directors have said... that..."

"What did they say?"

Kaleb seemed to hesitate. "Please do not be angry after you heard what I said."

Amelia frowned and looked as if she had already been provoked by Kaleb's words.

After a moment, she rubbed her eyes and answered with obvious agitation, "I won't be angry since I have already heard all types of unpleasantries thrown at me. So uncle, please just tell me."

Seeing this, Kaleb was secretly happy as he saw the scene before his eyes. He added on, "You know, I think it's best if I don't tell you instead?"

Amelia frowned and insisted. "Tell me."

Kaleb hesitated, "The board of directors mentioned that you divorced due to your own demoralize private interests. But after all, that's your own business, outsiders should not have a say in anything.

But, President Amelia, you have always used your looks to attract our potential clients and thereby, and all our deals have always been discussed during meals under table. If this rumor were to go out, Apex Construction Corporation's image will be potentially ruined...

For those who didn't know, they would think that we are not in an established company. Not to mention that many directors have already voiced out, saying that with the reputation that you have, it would be far better for the managing director to choose a more capable person in your stead."

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Amelia's face turn pale. Kaleb immediately blamed himself, "President Amelia, are you feeling okay? I knew that I shouldn't have mentioned this to you. It's all my fault!"

"No, it was me who blurted this out. I'm to blame instead!" The other directors rushed in to add onto the blame.

For a moment, the sound of "I'm to blame" rose one after another, but in Amelia's ears, how would these superficial people even have the intention to blame themselves?

"Uncle, you said that some people called me a lecher?" Amelia's eyes went cold. As soon as she said that, Kaleb and others immediately stopped arguing and looked at her. She continued, "Well, if I really wanted to betray myself, Mr. Quade won't be so badly hurt that day."

"That's right, I thoroughly understand you! However, we believe that the public also holds much say in this issue!" Kaleb advised her with sincerity.

Someone previously mentioned, "When the president of this country has been impeached, he will either have to explain himself or be dismissed from the board, so what more for our company that was built by these investors. That is why, every concern that have been raised by our directors have to take into consideration. Although President Ramsay has recently achieved great achievements with the Eastern District project, if too many people was dissatisfied with the issue in relation to Mr. Quade, your position will definitely be in jeopardy."

Amelia leaned back on the chair and shot back at Kaleb as if she was out of breath after she listened to their words, "Under these circumstances, I can only do my best to win this trial to clear everyone's misconceptions about me! Apex's leadership was passed on by my father to me during a time of crisis, so I would never pass it on to someone else before he awakes from his coma!"

Like a pack of wolves gradually closing in on its prey, Kaleb tried his best to hide his true intentions and expressed his final goodwill towards Amelia. "Rest assured, President Ramsay. We'll be more than willing to help you with this."

After leaving such bad news upon Amelia, Kaleb and others stood up and bid farewell, perfectly satisfied.

Amelia walked them to the door and watched them leave, then gently closed the door behind them.

As soon as the door closed, the worried expression on Amelia's face immediately turned into one full of scorn. Will Kaleb be so kind to help her engage with an eligible lawyer?

No way!

Maybe Kaleb had secretly cooperated with Mr. Quade, and in two days time, he would bring her down! At that time, Kaleb would find someone to stir up trouble amongst the board of directors, and her position as the interim managing director would fall into Kaleb's hands.

It had to be said that Amelia had figured out Kaleb's motives. At this time, Kaleb had returned to his office and was already working with his underlings to scheme for a big event that was happening in two day's time!

"Sir, you must've understood what your niece said clearly, haven't you?"

Kaleb slumped down on the sofa and answered gloomily, "Yes, it was clear enough."

"But, what she said was quite different from what Mr. Quade told us! He mentioned that Amelia told him on the phone that Patrick was going to appear in court to testify against him in two days, yet today Amelia informed us that she was unable to do anything. Patrick's name was not even mentioned. Do you think we should believe her?"

Kaleb fell silent for a moment. Then he suddenly snorted and retorted disdainfully, "What she said to Mr. Quade might just be a pretense. Actually, it's evidently clear that she and Patrick were in such a bad relationship the moment they divorced, not to mention that Patrick is also very temperamental. How would he ever agree to help her?"

"We can't rule out the possibility that she's deliberately revealing her weakness to us to eliminate the possibility of our wariness! Amelia is like a flower in the storm, so sir, it's still better to be safe than sorry."

Kaleb could not help but recall the several confrontations he had with Amelia previously as he heard their words. Each time, he did not seem to gain the upper hand.

Kaleb who was someone who was not usually meticulous gave this issue a thought, calmed down and suggested, "Why don't we make a phone call to Mr. Quade again to discuss this further?"

After Kaleb left and before Amelia had time to sit down, the telephone on the desk rang.

When he heard this, blood immediately rushed to Kaiden's head. He asked word by word, "You invited him? You actually invited him!"

She deliberately ignored the jealousy in his words and deliberately answered rather vaguely, "Yes, yes, I was the one who invited him. We had dinner together, and because I was held up at the moment, I asked Patrick to help answer the phone for me."

She talked so naturally about what happened between her and Patrick. Kaiden felt so provoked for a moment that he was unable to say anything.

He stared at her for a while, trying his best to suppress his jealousy and disappointment that was bubbling within him. Gnashing his teeth, he asked, "Did he tell you after that? That it was me who called?"

"He told me," Amelia retorted.

Kaiden's long and narrow eyes seemed to have dropped to the ground along with his feelings, deep to the point where one could not see the bottom. "Then why didn't you return my call?!"

Amelia said softly, "I'm sorry Kaiden, I forgot..."

The fact that she forgot without any remorse proves how his call to her was so insignificant!

Seeing Kaiden's reaction, Amelia secretly breathed a sigh of relief. As long as he thought that she was still interested in Patrick, he would be even more angry and not pursue her anymore would he?

Kaiden moved restlessly to the extent where he exploded with anger and asked, "But why?!"

Amelia's heart softened, but soon she cool composure and argued, "What do you mean by 'why'?"

"Why did you invite him? He clearly chose to divorce you at your most difficult time and abandoned both you and your child. How can such a man still be worthy of your love?"

In the presence of his continuous questions, Amelia happily answered, "Kaiden, whether I want to meet up with Patrick or not, it's ultimately my freedom. You're only an architect arranged by the government to work in my company. Drawing is your job, so I hope that you can remember this."

"What's more, it was me who initiated the divorce with Patrick. He didn't know that I was pregnant with his child, so don't make my life so miserable. Whether I am going to be someone's wife or not in the future is still up for discussion, but all I know is that Patrick is someone that I don't want to be with in the future!"

Kaiden could hold it in anymore and argued, "You're still defending him at this stage! How can you be so stupid? You said Patrick didn't want you and in fact, he wants to get rid of you!"

Amelia carressed her red lips and said, "Oh? You talk like you seem to know Patrick better than I do."

"I guess you're the only one in the world who has been kept in the dark, so let me just tell you the truth right here, right now! Patrick had always had someone else in his heart!"
