Amelia was grateful for the help that everyone had contributed all this while. Meanwhile, a point from his speech caught her attention too. She could not help but ask, "Hold on. You said that Owen had found you in the hospital. How did you explain your injury to him?"
Patrick caressed her puzzled face gently as he explained, "I told him that it was an accident."
Accident?
Amelia could understand why Patrick would lie to Owen. Had he told Owen the truth, that might result in tension between Owen and Eve. In the worst case, Patrick's honesty would inevitably put the Hopper Family into disastrous chaos.
Amelia continued to ask, "Then how did you manage to find out that I'm in Italy? It didn't seem like the tattoo provided much information though."
Patrick explained, "The tattoo linked us to one tattoo shop in Northville. The tattooist there told us that he remembered the tattoo design well as it was his customers who brought the sample design themselves to him. That was why we could confirm that those two ruffians had been to that tattoo shop recently.
Fortunately, the tattooist had their numbers in the name of providing after sale service. Hence, we let him to send a text message to those two men. They were misled into believing that the tattoo ink that had been used on their skin was corrosive and hence required immediate removal. As soon as they showed up at the tattoo shop on the same day they received the text message, they were being arrested by undercover police officers who were waiting in ambush."
Patrick paused for a moment before he continued solemnly, "It was fortunate that they were having fun using the money that Pablo had rewarded them. That was why we managed to set a trap and arrest them as they were staying for a couple of days more in Northville. It was only then we found out that it was an eagle that was being tattooed on their arms respectively. Jessica had described it correctly."
Eagle...
Amelia abruptly recalled that Pablo had a gigantic eagle tattoo across his left arm!
At this time, Patrick snorted, "Those two scumbags probably wanted to manifest their loyalty towards Pablo through this way! They were going to regret if they knew that tattoo had led us to Pablo!"
Terror had swept Amelia away. She could not help but snug in Patrick's arms.
Patrick enjoyed her dependence on him very much. He pulled her shoulders closer to him before he planted a soft kiss on her forehead.
His scent and warmth successfully calmed her down a little. She then continued to ask, "Those two men led you here to find me, am I right?"
Patrick replied with a solemn expression, "I wish that it could be that easy too! After interrogation, we got to know Pablo was involved from their mouths. However, when we were about to track Pablo down, it turned out that both of them were only some random scumbags hired by Pablo to kidnap you. They knew nothing of Pablo's whereabouts.
We had no other choice but to pay a visit to Pablo's parents. According to them, Pablo had been acting very strangely since he was discharged from the hospital. Not only did he spend most of the time away from home, even if he did come home he would not talk to them. Hence, we could only start digging on his hobbies and areas where he vested in interest in order to gather more information."
"But, why?" Amelia frown as she could not relate Pablo's hobbies to the key information that led them to her location.
The truth was Patrick had been extremely
meticulous on every possible clues that he could gather from Pablo's daily life. He explained, "Pablo had been spending most of his time in night clubs and bars. Hence, we decided to run through every of them as well as gather information from those attendants and hostess who happened to know him.
As a result, one of the hostesses told us that Pablo was heavily drunk on one night. That was when he inadvertently disclosed the fact that he had an unfinished business to deal with abroad.
When we learnt that he was going to travel overseas, we immediately had our men traced the departure records of every airports, ports and train stations."
Amelia could not help but draw a deep breath. Simply from his description, she was certain of a fact that it was an enormous project that would require a huge number of workforce!
Patrick continued, "Since we couldn't find the name of yours and Pablo from the records of airports and train stations, we suspected that he had opted to deport you out from the country through buses or boats. There was no need for him to provide identifications for these two means of transportation.
Therefore, we had our men on standby at every ports as well as bus stations. They were going to run a check on every passengers either on the boats or buses. There was no way that Pablo was going to escape from us!
Eventually, we found out that Pablo had brought you to Port Huron. That was also when we realized that he booked himself a flight ticket to Florence."
Amelia could not help asking, "Isn't it possible that Pablo might be transporting me out from
Northville in his own private vehicles? Why had you never suspected of this?"
Patrick replied firmly, "If he was driving on his own, he would be taking too much of risk at one time. There were countless surveillance cameras on the highways. Besides, he would be required to deal with police had he bumped into any roadblocks at any point in time. Pablo was not going to risk getting himself caught."
Amelia nodded in agreement of his meticulous analysis. Pablo was not a fool after all. He knew that he had to avoid those means of transportation that would require her proof of identity. That was why he decided to deport her through a boat before taking a flight to flee off the country himself.
He thought that he could outsmart the Hopper Family and the police force. At the end of the day, he seemingly underestimated the meticulousness shared by both the Hopper brothers as well as the influence Gramps had across Northville.
After all, what Gramps had the most was the connection and influence over the army and police force. In addition, Owen was an experienced inspector recorded with countless success in leading rescue missions in the past. It was no different than digging his own grave for Pablo to offend the Hopper Family.
As her thoughts sank, Amelia waited for Patrick to continue. At the sight of him stopping, she baffled, "What happened after that? The story couldn't have possibly stopped at Florence."
Patrick's gaze turned cold as he muttered, "Precisely speaking, the rescue mission began exactly from Florence. But, instead of having me followed here, Owen had restricted my movement back in Northville. He would not let me travel to Italy!"
At this moment, it began to make sense to her why would Patrick and Owen end up fighting at the door earlier.
At the beginning, she was perplexed at their strange behavior towards each other. After all, it was known as a fact to everyone that both the Hopper brothers were close to each other. It turned out that Patrick was holding grudge against Owen for not letting him to travel to Italy!
Amelia did not reply to him.
She had to admit that Patrick voiced out exactly how she was feeling. Meanwhile, on the other hand, she was flattered by his overbearing confidence and narcissism.
"What's wrong?" As he noticed the corner of her mouth twitching, Patrick could not help but guess,
"Is that because you're not interested in Florence? Perhaps we can travel to other cities nearby. I'll ask someone to book flight tickets for us!"
At the sight of Patrick who was about to put it into action, Amelia reached out her hand abruptly and pulled him back.
Patrick startled. He teased, "Mrs. Hopper, can I understand this as you can't wait to have me on bed?"
Ugh! Not again!
She had been repeatedly reminding him not to address her in such way!
Had it been in the past, there was no doubt that she was going to correct him. However, having in mind that what he had done for her these days, she decided to turn a deaf ear at this moment.
"Mrs. Hopper, are you aware of the danger you're getting into for you to stare at a man in blank like this?"
At the sight of Patrick pressing himself against her, Amelia hurriedly said, "Hold on... Listen to me!" "Yeah, go ahead! I'm listening!" Despite agreeing with her, his hands were running through her skin wildly instead.
Amelia had her hands pressing against his sturdy chest in an attempt to prevent him from putting his weight on her. Meanwhile, she took the opportunity to say, "You don't have to book any flight tickets. I don't want you to travel."
Patrick kissed her red lips before he asked her playfully, "Then what do you want me to do? Or you prefer to have me all by yourself on bed twenty-four seven?"
Nonsense!
Amelia shot him a glare before she clarified, "I want you to stay and get a full rest. You've been travelling around to look for me. It must have been very tiring for you."
A surge of warmth began to light up his heart. However, in the next second, he teased her again, "Mrs. Hopper, you're wrong. I'm not tired at all. Do you believe that I can want you right here, right now?"
Amelia's face was written with disbelief. She scoffed, "Stop flexing! You had just undergone a surgery at your waist. I remembered that you couldn't get up from your bed at all the last time I saw you. It was just a matter of a couple of days time. There's no way that you've been completely recovered!"
