"Nonsense, there are much prettier people in the world. Do you think you can look at all of them?" Amelia teased him while her cheeks pinked, but she was joyous deep down in her heart.
Patrick's sweet talk was fluent. He replied, "That's their business then. But, having Mrs. Hopper looking good is my blessing. After all, you're the one I want to look at for the rest of my life."
"Ahem!" Amelia blushed and asked uneasily, "How come you've become so glib recently?"
Patrick took her hand and said affectionately, "That's because I've had a taste of what happens when I'm dishonest with myself. I like you, and I care about you a lot. But, I used to always say the opposing words to what I truly felt, which hurt you deeply."
"My possessiveness was the reason why I didn't like you being in touch with other men. I wanted to keep you by my side, but by doing so, I pushed you further and further away.'
"Ha, did you know... I felt ashamed when I heard what Justin said to Paisley just now. Justin, who's years younger than me can be so frank in front of his lover, but I've always
been timid like a coward!"
"Mr. Hopper... Actually, you weren't as horrible as you think you were!" Amelia lowered her gaze and looked at him on the bed shyly.
He had gradually become someone who shared the same world as her. He was no longer the Mr. Patrick who looked down on her, who only showed his love as charity.
Mr. Hopper?
When Patrick heard the appellation which he thought he would never in his life hear from her, he felt as if he was dreaming.
Amelia soon realized what she said, and embarrassment reddened her face. She could not help but defend herself, "Don't get me wrong. I don't intend to remarry you now!" Patrick laughed and said, "Mrs. Hopper, I know you’re shy and want to find a place to hide your face now. But, don’t worry, my arms are where your safe place is!"
The next second, he closed his eyes, puffed out his chest, and opened his arms, looking intoxicated.
"Patrick Hopper, I'm touched!" thought Amelia.
After the conversation, Amelia did not forget what she had to do. "The doctor said you should have a balanced diet, so I made you dumplings with beef stuffings, vegetable stuffings, and fresh mushrooms stuffings. You have to eat all of them. Oh, also, I brought vinegar too.
Amelia moved her body to a side, picked up the lunch box on the bedside table, and opened the lid. Then, she held the heavy lunch box in front of Patrick.
Patrick took in the sight of the dumplings in the container.
The dumplings were placed orderly in the lunchbox. And because of the translucent dumpling skin, Patrick could see the ingredients packed in them. Since the thermal insulation lunchbox worked, he could also see the steam rolling off the dumplings.
The aroma wafted towards Patrick, which made him feel hungry and his mouth water.
Oh, how much he had missed Amelia's cooking.
In the next second, he stretched out his hand straight towards the dumplings in the lunchbox!
At that moment, Amelia quickly slapped the back of his hand and asked in surprise, "Did you forget your dining etiquette?"
Patrick suddenly came to his senses. He withdrew his hand awkwardly and replied calmly, "I just wanted to test the n temperature.
"Who would test the temperature as you did? Do you live in the stone age? Why did you grab it with your bare hands and not with chopsticks? Don't you see the steam coming out of the lunchbox? Do you know how hot it is?" Amelia shot a few questions in a row which struck Patrick speechless.
Patrick found a reason for his blunder and explained, "Fine. I admit that I lost control of myself. But, it's only because your dumplings smell so good. Maybe you've added ecstasy in them."
"Ecstasy, huh?" Amelia put away the lunchbox with a fake smile. "Then, for your health, I think I'd better keep them away!"
Fortunately, Patrick was not completely 'merciless'. After swallowing down a dumpling, he immediately said, "Don't just
feed me. Eat some as well."
Amelia had already had some before she came, but she did not want to disappoint Patrick, so she made a deal with him. "How about this. I'll have one after every third dumpling you eat. Okay?"
"No, I can't starve you, if not..." Patrick glanced at her belly.
So he was afraid of starving the baby?
Amelia was stunned for a couple of seconds and promised gently, "Okay, one for each of I!
us.
As she spoke, she turned her chopsticks the other way round and stuffed a dumpling into her mouth.
The dumplings she ate was stuffed with white cabbage, slightly tangy after being dipped in vinegar. The stuffing tasted sweet and the dumpling skin was soft and sticky. It was surprisingly refreshing to eat.
Amelia had been feeling sick these two days but, she felt much better at the moment.
As they ate, Amelia noticed that the lunchbox had emptied. They had finished the twenty dumplings in a blink of an eye.
Patrick chuckled. "Mrs. Hopper, you have a good appetite today."
