Jonathan asked disappointedly, "Mr. Hopper, do we still have the need to go?"
Patrick asked, "Why not?"
Jonathan said gloomily, "Because... Kaleb has already taken action in advance."
Kaleb had visited Yasir on the same night as them. He must have done it on purpose to put him down!
As for how Kaleb managed to do it, Jonathan had thought about it as well. He had probably leaked the secret by accident when he went to the data room to gather information!
In other words, there were undercover agents arranged by Kaleb in the room!
"He bribed on his own while we'll carry out our plan. Aren't they two different businesses?" Patrick looked at the front as he said calmly.
"That may be the case, but with Kaleb's viciousness, I'm afraid he's probably approached the second person on our list!" Jonathan looked frustrated. "Mr. Hopper, I'm sorry. I'm afraid it's a wasted trip tonight."
Patrick looked at Jonathan and asked with interest, "I heard from Amy that you have been fighting Kaleb for 20 years?"
Jonathan was stunned.
"You've persisted for 20 years. Why would you mind about a single night?" Patrick smiled.
Jonathan suddenly felt a little embarrassed. "I..." "Would you like to take a cigarette and calm down?" Patrick took out a cigarette box and lighter from his trouser pocket.
After a pause, Jonathan took them with both hands and replied, "Thanks."
After smoking, Jonathan gradually calmed down. Patrick was right. His competition with Kaleb had long been there. There was no need to be frustrated about Kaleb being temporarily one step ahead. He was not such person to give up easily!
After throwing the cigarette out of the car window, Jonathan turned to Patrick and said, "Mr. Hopper, let's resort the list so that the we would less likely bump into Kaleb!"
"What if... Kaleb didn't act alone?" Patrick made a hypothesis.
"Then..." Jonathan's brows twitched. Patrick words made sense. What if Kaleb was carrying out his plan in a team?
There were 15 persons in the neutral party, being only a quarter of the top management. While Kaleb had a total of 25 persons on his side, he could definitely take a "one-on-one" strategy.
At the moment, Patrick had already picked up the pile of information brought by Jonathan to review it again. "It's no use to avoid him. Compared with avoiding Kaleb, I'm more interested in knowing who Kaleb has won over among the 15 persons."
Jonathan did not quite understand. "So, not all fifteen of them are Kaleb's targets?"
Patrick shook his head and said slowly, "That would be too extravagant for Kaleb. Didn't you hear what Yasir said? Kaleb gave him 2 million dollars. If 15 persons were all bribed, it will be too much of a burden for Kaleb.
Moreover, there is no need for him to bribe all of them. Because according to the rule of Apex, as long as more than half of the top management have passed the votes, they can decide the 'fate' of a board member. So... do you get what I mean?"
Jonathan completely understood. And he felt even more ashamed. "I actually forgot about this rule. I've gone senile!"
Patrick chuckled and said, "It's nothing. It's just that you were to focused on it and may have overlook something. We still need to fight for another 11 persons while Kaleb only needs to bribe another 6 persons to succeed. Whether in terms of time or number of person, it's very disadvantageous to us."
As Patrick had even said so, Jonathan suddenly had a bleak and hopeless feeling.
However, the smile that had always been on Patrick face somehow gave Jonathan strength. "Mr. Hopper, why do you want to know who Kaleb's targets include? Is this helpful to us?"
Patrick had expectedly not fought back. Instead, he answered politely, "Yes, I'm almost in the parking lot. Sorry to trouble you tonight, Gramps."
"That's more like it!" Patrick greeting him as 'Gramps' had made him in a good mood, but he soon became dissatisfied again. "If I hadn't called you on a whim tonight, wouldn't you keep hiding from me that you and Amelia have got together again?"
Patrick curled his lips and replied, "Don't you already have Owen as your scout? I don't see the need for me to personally inform you."
Gramps said angrily, "Such nonsense! Don't you have any consciousness? This is your own business! You should stop bothering Owen!"
"Have you not said it the opposite way? It's Owen who's always bothered me..." Patrick had even added boldly, "And you as well."
Gramps was so angry that he wanted to slam his phone on the spot. But for the sake of Amelia, he held it back. "I've heard about Amelia's identity."
"Oh, she's not the one who told you, right?" Patrick asked with certainty.
"How do you know that she didn't tell me?" Gramps Hopper replied grumpily.
"From your exasperated tone." Patrick said.
"D*mn it!"
Patrick's lips curled into a smile.
"You son of a... forget it. For the sake of Amelia, I'm not quarrelling with you today! Otherwise, I will whack your a** real hard!"
