Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1517

Amelia could not help feeling sorry for what Jessica had been through. "Jessica, your father's hospital charges was the reason that you wanted to earn as much money as you could, am I right?"

Jessica bit her lower lip before she replied sorrowfully, "You're right. After receiving wages for the first month of work, I rushed back just so that I could more or less relieve my family from the financial burden. However, it was also when I witnessed the affair between my mother and that stranger..."

All of a sudden, Amelia understood why Jessica held contempt towards Jocelyn. After all, Jessica was striving to earn money just so that her father could live another day in the hospital. Yet, her mother was caught red- handed for committing adultery. Amelia did not think that she could forget and forgive easily if she were to be put in Jessica's shoes. Hence, Amelia said apologetically, "Jessica, I'm so sorry to hear that. I wish to take back whatever I said, if possible."

Jessica smiled and gave a tiny nod understanding^. She then went on to say, "After that incident, I decided to earn money and support myself and swore to never take a single penny from my mother! Just like that, I managed to make ends meet for the first semester during our first year with the wages I earned from the club. However, when it came to the second semester, I started to find it difficult to pay the tuition fees on my own..."

Amelia could feel her heart sinking in melancholy upon hearing Jessica. After all, ten thousand dollars was not a small amount. She remained doubtful about the wages Jessica was able to earn during the winter break.

Jessica then muttered, "Amelia, do you remember when I didn't go back to Northville with you during winter that year?"

Her question snapped Amelia from her thoughts, who replied faintly, "Yes. You told me that you were going to spend a couple of days travelling in another city before returning home."

Jessica looked away with a heavy heart before she continued, "The truth was I didn't go travelling at all. Instead, I stayed in our school dormitory throughout the winter break. I spent my day time working at the club and came back to sleep at night."

"What?" Amelia could not help but squeak. She could not believe that Jessica had spent Christmas alone in the hostel while everyone was celebrating in their hometown.

"I had cut off my mother from my life after that incident. There was no point for me to go back anyway."

Amelia's voice cracked as she murmured, "But... It was Christmas."

"So what? My father didn't make it until winter that year. Plus, I would end up grieving if I were to go back to Northville that year." Jessica looked up at the ceiling in an attempt to blink away the tears in her eyes.

Amelia clenched her fists and disagreed, "You... You could have stayed at my house!"

Jessica replied faintly, "I had to earn money to pay the tuition fees for the upcoming semester. There was no way that I could return."

"There was no way that I could go back..."

Her last statement lingered in the air and suffocated Amelia.

Jessica's voice trembled as she struggled to hold back her emotions. "The club didn't do well during Christmas that year. The basic salary that was offered to me didn't help at all. I was devastated to have customers stopping by the club."

"I had no way to sell the massage oil if no one was patronizing the club. In that case, I would not be able to earn any commission from sales. If that were to continue, I couldn't get the ten thousand dollar I needed when school reopened."

"Just as I was about to cave in and turn to my mother, that man... No. That young man stopped by the club all of a sudden. He was the most gorgeous boy I had ever seen in my life, and I can assure you that he looked so much better than any of the guys that went to school with us!"

Amelia could not help but notice that Jessica's eyes were shining when she mentioned the boy.

Amelia collected herself and asked again, "What happened next?"

Jessica heaved a sigh before she said dreadfully, "The tragedy came next."

"A tragedy?"

Amelia's glance fell on the mark on Jessica's lower lips as she bit herself. Jessica explained, "As I've told you, the massage oil contained aphrodisiac, not to mention that I performed a full body massage for him attentively. Bear in mind, he was not much older than us. You couldn't overestimate his self-restraint at that point in time."

Amelia's head was buzzing when she stuttered, "So, are you implying that you were..."

Jessica's lashes trembled unnoticeably as she finished the sentence feebly, "That's right..."

Amelia was agitated when Jessica confirmed her thoughts. She exclaimed devastatingly, "What happened after that?"

"After he regained his sobriety, he was pissed off and thought that it was me who took advantage of him. He demanded the boss to dismiss me. But the boss was kind. He pretended to chase me out in front of the guy but later on asked me to come back working as soon as he left."

Amelia muttered, "It seemed like your boss was quite nice."

Jessica nodded at first but shook her head in the next second disapprovingly. "Let me put it in this way. Although he allowed me to return and continue working, that did not negate the fact that he still didn't disclose to me the content of the oil."
