At the sight of Ashley looking around when they were having breakfast, Amelia could not help but ask, "Ashley, are you trying to look for Rick?"
Ashley withdrew her searching gaze and said, "That's right, Aunty. Let's bring Rick along when we depart later."
As soon as Ashley finished her words, Andrew said, "Ashley, Aunty told us before that her friend will help us to take care of Rick when we're away. Have you forgotten this?"
Ashley stunned for a second before squealing in terror, "Oh yeah! Now that I remember! How can I ever forget this? Is this a sign that I'm aging?!"
Andrew scratched his head and sighed, "I guess you're probably too excited over the upcoming travel. That's why you forget about everything else." "Mm, that makes sense too! At the end of the day, it is always my enemy that knows me best..." With that said, Ashley took a mouthful bite of her sandwich.
Andrew fell back into a momentary silence before he corrected, "Ashley, I'm your brother."
Ashley added coldly, "And also my enemy."
Andrew sank into another moment of silence. It took him a while before he finally said, "It's time for you to stop watching dramas."
Nora slapped her head in frustration as she heard their conversation. She turned to Patrick and Amelia and said, "Sometimes I have not a single clue as to what they're talking about. Do you think that I'm getting so old that I don't understand kids nowadays?"
Amelia chuckled, "In that case, I'm too old for their conversation too."
Patrick threw a glance at Amelia before saying, "Don't forget that I'm older than you for a fact."
At the airport.
"We're going to fly up high!" Like a bird being uncaged, no amount of words could describe Ashley's excitement as she ran freely across the open space.
Although Andrew was staying next to Nora in an uptight manner, it was not hard to tell from his expression that he wished to join his sister too.
At the sight of this, Nora patted his shoulder and said softly, "Andrew, can you go and take care of your sister for me?"
Andrew nodded as he heard that.
He began marching steadily towards Ashley which was not far away from them. Staring at his back, Amelia could not help but comment, "Andrew is certainly molded by Owen."
Sighing, Nora muttered, "That's right. Andrew has been taking his father as his role model since he was young. He pays attention to how his father will behave and react and learns them by heart.
However, sometimes I can't help but think that this is not necessarily a good phenomena. Andrew is still a kid after all. He's supposed to be carefree and wild. It is no doubt unhealthy for his growth to always constrain himself."
It was at this time when Patrick commented lightly, "Nora, your worry is completely unnecessary."
Both Nora and Amelia subconsciously looked at his direction.
Patrick further elaborated, "Andrew is determined to become a person like his father. What we deem as dull and boring character is exactly the maturity as well as stability that he wishes to achieve. The truth is he finds himself feeling uncomfortable when he tries to be carefree like other children do."
Nora startled for a moment before she was enlightened, "Now I got it."
Meanwhile, Amelia looked at Patrick admiringly. She could not help feeling impressed that he could understand Andrew so well.
Patrick could simply tell what she was thinking at this moment. Hence, he explained, "I've talked to Andrew before."
"What?" Nora was stupefied. All this while, Nora had been reluctant to discuss with Andrew with regards to his character in fear that she might injure his feeling. That was why she could not be any more surprised to know that Patrick already had such discussion with Andrew before!
Patrick glanced at Nora as he added, "Nora, Andrew is born to be an introvert. You can't expect him to tell you anything if you don't ask him yourself."
As soon as he finished his words, the signboard began notifying that the flight to Japan was ready for boarding. Hence, Patrick ended the conversation and said faintly, "Let's go. It's boarding time."
On the plane, Amelia and Patrick were seated on the front row while Nora and her twins were taking the row behind them.
While Ashley could be a handful sometimes, she knew how to behave on serious occasions. That was why at this moment she fastened her seatbelt skillfully before adjusting her seat to her comfort. She then remained quiet and properly seated throughout the journey.
There was no need to worry about Andrew on the other hand. He was born dashing coupled with the fact that he had been well-trained with etiquettes at a much younger age. That was why he behaved indeed like a young adult as compared to his sister who was merely pretending to be one.
The other passengers who passed by their row, could not help having their attention drawn to the pair of adorable twins.
Ashley was not shy when she received stares from those strangers. Instead, she looked back at them with her eyes full of wonder. Consequently, those passengers had to look away as a result of feeling embarrassed for staring at her.
On the other hand, Amelia seemed distracted at this moment. At the sight of this, Patrick could not help saying, "Sit back and relax. Don't overthink."
Amelia subconsciously denied, "No, I'm not."
It was as if Patrick could read her mind out loud. He exposed her, "Aren't you thinking about the matter of Apex Construction Corporation?"
Amelia could not help but sigh after being exposed by him. "There's nothing that I can keep from you."
"You told me that you're not going to think about it anymore. What for are you troubling yourself now?"
Amelia sighed again. "It's always easier to say than getting it done."
"You can always tell me what's on your mind."
Amelia began murmuring, "I'm worried that Kaleb is going to turn the company upside down."
Milton hurriedly said, "Mom, Maryanne and I, we're doing great. Aren't both of you on call every night? No one else knows better than you as to whether we are still in a relationship or not."
When Sierra realized that she had exposed herself, she grunted, "Since your relationship is going strong, then why aren't you two getting married?"
Milton was amused by Sierra's reasoning. He retorted, "Mom, there is no rule compelling couples to get married if they are not having a break up. Besides, it has not been half a year since we decided to get together."
Sierra advised earnestly, "I don't mean to pressure you. I just want to remind you that it has never been easy for Maryanne. She has stepped out from her comfort zone and come all the way to England to be with you. That's why I can't help thinking that she really loves you. You've already missed Amelia,
I don't want you to miss another good woman like Maryanne."
Milton felt his heart sinking all in a sudden when she heard Amelia's name. He could not help having prejudices against Maryanne. "Mom, what did Maryanne complain to you?"
Sierra did not notice the hint of coldness in Milton's tone. She could not wait to share with Milton as to what Maryanne had been telling her. "Maryanne told me that she struggles to adapt to the Britain's choice of food. She also complained that the rainy weather over there makes her feel depressed..."
Milton could not help feeling lost as Sierra nagged. At first, he thought that Maryanne would complain to Sierra that he had been earning so little, not to mention that the lack of thoughtfulness in him. That was why he was surprised when all she ever complained were those trivial matters. What was more, he even found some of them ridiculous yet amusing.
"My dear son." Sierra continued, "Listen to me. Don't get so caught up in your job. You should spend more time concerning about Maryanne, do you hear me?"
"There's no need for you to remind me, Mom. That's what I've been doing." Milton thought that since Sierra was staying so far away from them back in Northville, it did nothing harm for him to make a white lie in an attempt to ease her worry.
"Oh? Then do you know that Maryanne has been upset of the rainy weather there? It gets so much worse when it has been raining continuously for a couple of days. She said that that awful weather makes it hard for the washed clothes to dry. That's why most of the time she ends up wearing clothes which are probably still damp. She can't help feeling that she's getting mildewed in those damp clothes."
"This isn't really a really big deal, Mom. Everyone who is living in England has to get through that." Milton was reluctant to admit that he had not been paying enough attention to Maryanne's discomfort.
"Did you ever think that the life she had before moving there to be with you? Do you honestly think that The Smith Family would ever let her wear something which is not fully dried? Besides, it's easier to catch a cold and fall sick in those damp clothes. You're her boyfriend. Can't you at least think of a way to sort this problem?!"
Sierra meant it as a joke when she brought up the issue. However, as she went on, she could not help lecturing Milton when it appeared that it was indeed an issue that was not supposed to be taken lightly.
Milton thought of defending himself, "I..."
Sierra cut him off ruthlessly, "Don't use your job as an excuse to fool me. You used to be so attentive to Amelia's preference and needs back in those days. This alone is enough to suggest that you're not someone who don't know how to take care of others at all. It's just that you're being unfair towards Maryanne!" grunted, "Mom, can you please stop making comparison between Amelia and Maryanne?"
Feeling overwhelmed by exasperation, Sierra squealed, "Milton, do you need me to remind you as to who is your girlfriend now?"
"Mom!" Milton was on the verge of exploding as he was running out of patience.
Sierra's tone was getting serious as she went on to say, "Don't blame me if I'm being blatantly straightforward to you now. Even if Amelia is divorced now, don't you dare to have any illusion of getting together with her. What you should focus on is your own relationship with Maryanne. I don't want to see any of them getting hurt due to your indecisiveness. Do you hear me?"
"Ugh!"
