Amelia muttered, "Then I won't play my phone lying down. I'll sit up and play it, okay?"
But Patrick's answer was gentle but erotic, "Close your eyes and go to sleep, or I'll do something else with you."
However, Amelia did not scurry under the quilt immediately. Instead, she asked with concern, "Mr. Hopper, are you hiding something from me?"
"Yes." Patrick did not deny it.
"What is it?" Amelia immediately asked.
Patrick kissed her forehead gently and replied, "Go to sleep first. I'll tell you tomorrow."
Amelia stared into his eyes and guessed, "Is it about me?"
A dark gleam flashed in Patrick's eyes, but his voice was faint and light when he urged, "Go to sleep first."
Amelia was stubborn. "You haven't answered me yet. Does it have to do with me?"
"Amy." Patrick's voice was slightly stern and his gaze was fierce. "It seems to me that you have something other than sleep on your mind."
"I don't..." It was too late to say no. Patrick overbearingly covered her soft body and made Amelia powerless to think about any nonsense by using his own methods.
The next day, it was already nine o'clock when Amelia woke up. After washing up, she opened the door and went downstairs.
Surprisingly, Patrick did not go to work. He was sitting on the sofa and looking at the laptop.
From the corners of his eyes, when he saw Amelia coming down the stairs, Patrick quietly closed the webpage he was browsing. He raised his hand to smoother, his scowl in discreet and greeted her cheerfully, "Amy, breakfast is ready. Let's eat together."
But Amelia replied wistfully, "Mr. Hopper, can you tell me now?"
"It's nothing major." Patrick continued in a casual tone, "Brittany exposed the news that you're not your parents' biological daughter in a forum last night, which attracted much attention. But I think you're used to it. After all, she has always been pulling this trick."
Amelia smiled and answered, "That's right. I'm surprised that Brittany was able to endure so long before revealing it. Should I say that she has grown up?" "I guess it's because we didn't take down Kaleb, and that's why she's dragging you into this."
"That's the only explanation." After a pause, Amelia thought of something and asked, "Did you ask Richard and a few others to beat her up last night?"
Patrick chuckled. "Richard found that the IP address came from Kaleb's house. So, he mistakenly assumed that it was Kaleb who made the post. However, when I asked him to bring some men along to Kaleb's house, it was Kaleb's wife who opened the door as Kaleb was out socializing. There were only two women at home, which meant that it was Brittany."
"I see." Amelia nodded in understanding. Since she had no feud with Kaleb's wife, it had to be Brittany.
Finally, she questioned, "Then, did Richard and the rest do it?"
Patrick fell silent as if he was hesitating about telling her the truth.
Amelia looked at him with a suspicious look. "Was it bloody?"
Patrick slowly responded, "Richard...they brought Brittany away and locked her up."
Watching Amelia's eyes as they suddenly widened with surprise, Patrick hurriedly added, "That has nothing to do with me. I didn't give the order." But he did not reject it either.
"Then...is her life in danger?"
"No. Richard only put her under house arrest so that she won't make trouble. As for food, he has made arrangements."
The uneasiness in Amelia's heart immediately dissipated. She and Brittany did not get along, so she did not care about what would happen to Brittany. All she needed was to keep Brittany alive so that she could explain to Alice what happened.
"By the way, what's the name of that forum? I want to search for the post."
"Are you sure you want to see it?" Patrick raised his eyebrows.
"Yea, why not?" Amelia replied.
Out of respect, Patrick reopened the webpage. It turned out that he was browsing the post before Amelia came downstairs.
But Eve was an exception. The reporters did not come to her, but she had taken the initiative to contact them. What she attempted to express was that Amelia came from an unclear background and thus was unworthy of being Patrick's wife. She then boldly declared that her stance was representing the Hopper family's views on the matter!
However, her announcement was quickly denounced by Gramps Hopper, who stated that Patrick only had one wife, which was Amelia Ramsay. He then informed their wedding date was on the 20th of next month, which was approximately a month away.
To tell the truth, Gramps Hopper wanted the couple to get married as soon as possible, just in case things went further south. But Granny Hopper insisted their marriage to be on the 'blessed day', saying that the date was chosen based on Patrick and Amelia's birth charts. She even said that they would lead an excellent life as long as they got married on this day.
In that case, so be it!
Gramps Hopper immediately called Amelia to tell her of the date and comforted her, which moved Amelia.
On the other side, Ryan and Ruth had also heard the news of Amelia's engagement and her family background. Regarding the latter news, Ryan was agitated, even developing the idea of adopting her to be his daughter since she was so pitiful.
Ruth asked when she saw Ryan's expression, "Honey, what do you think about the matter regarding Miss Amelia Ramsay?"
Ryan came to his senses and sighed. "She's so pitiful. Ever since I know her, there seem to be constant disturbances coming towards her."
"Right, I wonder if she's feeling upset. Do you want to call her?" Ruth held some prejudice against Amelia previously, but the misunderstanding was resolved, so it was all in the past.
Ryan nodded. "Okay, I'll call her now."
The second the call connected, Ryan seemed to hear Amelia laughing. He could not help but feel curious about how she could be laughing at this moment.
Ryan had clearly misunderstood her.
For the matter of her family background being leaked, Amelia was, undoubtedly, in agony. But this misery had taken place when it happened back at the board meeting at Apex Construction Corporation, not when the thread was posted. So, when she picked up Ryan's call, she was watching the entertainment show and cackling out loud.
"Hello, Uncle Quartley. Have you had dinner?" Amelia's voice was so bright that she stunned Ryan on the other side of the phone.
Ryan replied, "Yes. I've eaten. Wait! Amelia, are you okay?"
