After listening to Milton's explanation, Maryanne could not help but smile. Although it was very small, at least it was a smile.
As Milton saw this, happiness appeared in his eyes, but he did not dare to relax. He still focused on the person in front of him, waiting for her forgiveness.
Hobart, who was standing beside them, was pleased when Maryanne was scolding Milton and even shouting for him to get lost. However, now that the situation seemed to have been reversed by Milton, Hobart’s expression immediately darkened.
"Maryanne, don't let him fool you again!" Hobart continued after he caught Maryanne's attention with a single sentence, "Think about it yourself. Has this man, so far, ever told you a word of truth?"
Maryanne's heart turned heavy again as she heard this.
"Maryanne, I may not be very nice to you, but I'm your elder brother. You should know who really cares about and loves you, right?" Hobart said sagely.
"Maryanne!” Milton couldn't let Hobart continue provoking her. He grabbed her hand and said slowly, "You really should think about it. I've already successfully retaliated against you in the past and avenged Amelia. Then why would I pester you shamelessly now?"
"Is it really a set-up for you again, as you say? I think, anyone with a little intelligence will not be cheated again, right? Especially you, you have suffered such a serious injury!"
"Besides, you know me. For someone I don't like, it's very difficult for me to do something excessive to her because I can't get over it, but... I hugged and kissed you afterward. Isn't it enough to prove that I have already fallen in love with you?"
When Hobart heard that his precious younger sister had been taken advantage of, his face turned as black as a pan.
"You b*stard! Who allowed you to touch Maryanne?"
After separating Milton's and Maryanne's hands, Hobart shouted loudly, "You'd better get lost now! Otherwise, I'll have someone break your leg and send you back on your knees!”
After taking a deep look at Maryanne, who had her eyes lowered and no one knew what she was thinking, Milton looked sideways at Hobart and said in neither servile nor pushy tone, "Hobart, I put up with you for the sake of Maryanne, not because I'm afraid of you."
Hobart sneered, "You're totally free to come at me!"
Milton smiled as well, showing his shrewdness. "You're Maryanne's elder brother. I should respect you."
As a matter of fact, he was not in a position to fight Hobart. If he really did, Maryanne would only hate him even more, and that would be exactly what Hobart wanted.
Hobart spat, "Fake!"
Milton turned his head and looked at
Maryanne. He said, "Maryanne, I've already told you what I wanted to say. I won't force you to reply to me immediately. I only hope that you can think about it carefully and not be affected by others."
Hobart, who was being insinuated "others", suddenly opened his eyes wide.
In the end, Milton said regretfully, "Maryanne, I came here on purpose to invite you for lunch, but your brother just said that you were already eating. I have to wait until next time to invite you."
"Get lost!" Hobart couldn't take it any longer. How dare he asked Maryanne out in front of him, was he treating him as a dead man?
"Goodbye, Maryanne." Milton greeted Hobart with "courtesy" after saying his goodbyes, which made Hobart feel extremely disgusted.
After taking a deep breath, he spread out his hand to her. "I'll ask you again. Do you want to give me your phone?"
Maryanne's eyes turned red. Eventually, she took out her phone and passed it to Hobart.
Hobart had already prepared for the worst. After all, his sister was very stubborn, but when she really took out her phone, he was stunned.
A moment later, Hobart came back to his senses. He took the phone with one hand and touched her head with the other. "That's right. I'm doing this for your own good," he said, his tone full of gratitude and praise.
Maryanne nodded gently and looked as if she was being taught a lesson. "I know you did it for my own good. I was too insensible. I shouldn't have argued with you. I'm sorry."
Hobart's brows relaxed as he heard this. He did not say anything else and allowed Maryanne to continue eating. Hobart's heart softened and he couldn't help but start to reflect on the "threat". Was he going too far?
Maryanne suddenly put down the bowl as he was thinking. She said to him, "Brother, I'm full."
Hobart noticed, "You only ate half a bowl of rice? And you're full?"
Maryanne replied, "I ate something else on the way back. I'm not really hungry."
"All right," Hobart did not push her. "If you're hungry, just tell me. I'll have the kitchen to make you something good."
"Yes! You're the best!" Maryanne straightened up and came to Hobart's side. She hugged him and said, "I'm going back to my room to rest. Remember to return my phone to me when it's done."
