But now, Maryanne's mind was very clear. She was not interested in the "prodigal son".
A prodigal is still a prodigal. She didn't want them to set their eyes on her."
"Brother, you go out first. I want to sleep for a while."
"Okay, then have a good rest. Don't forget to accompany Jarvy to attend the press conference tonight."
Hobart left after reminding her.
After he left, Maryanne immediately walked up to the window, opened the curtain, and looked downstairs, but she did not find Milton.
He hadn't come yet?
Maryanne pouted a little disappointedly, then slowly drew down the curtains and laid down on the bed in a sullen mood.
Before going to sleep, she did not forget to keep her cell phone in her hand, in case she could not hear Milton when he called later.
*
Not knowing how much time had passed, the first thing Maryanne did after she woke up was to turn on the phone, but she did not find any missed call.
Did he... not come today?
Maryanne hugged the pillow in her arms and rubbed it hard as if it was Milton.
Just as Maryanne was staring at her phone, she heard a few knocks on the door. "Miss, it's five o'clock in the afternoon. Young Master asked us to help you dress up."
Maryanne got up and opened the door. She saw a line of maids standing outside the door, staring at her as if she was a criminal.
She couldn't help but be relieved. "My brother sent you to monitor me, didn't he?"
The maids replied awkwardly, "No, that's not true!"
Maryanne said with a straight face, "Go tell my brother. Since I've already promised him, I won't make any mistakes. Save your effort on monitoring me. I'm not used to having someone watching me while I'm showering."
Before they could react, Maryanne slammed the door shut, leaving the maids looking at each other at the door.
"What should we do? Young Master wants us to keep an eye on Miss."
"I think since Miss has said so, there shouldn't be any problems, right?"
"Why don't I report to Young Master and you two continue to stand guard at the door, just in case?”
"Okay, you can go."
Maryanne, who was in the room, was standing in front of the window and looking forward.
After looking at it for more than half an hour, she was disappointed and withdrew her sight, turned around and went into the bathroom.
At six o'clock.
After Maryanne came out of the shower, she did not wear the dress that Jarvy had sent over. Instead, she picked out a white shirt and a pair of black high-waisted pants from the closet.
After wearing it like this, she casually put on a light makeup for herself which was better than nothing, then she opened the door and went out.
When the maid, who had been waiting outside for a long time, saw her, their eyes suddenly lit up. "Miss! You finally came out!" Maryanne pushed them away and asked while walking out, "Where's my brother?"
A maid replied, "Young Master, Master and Madam are drinking tea in the living room."
Maryanne replied with an "oh" and walked towards the living room.
Hobart was speechless.
Maryanne smiled in satisfaction and asked, "Brother, what time did Jarvy say that he would come to pick me up?"
"He said seven o'clock." Hobart looked down at his watch and said, "There's less than half an hour left. Eat some simple food at home. Remember not to fill your stomach, lest Jarvy brings you to dinner.”
"Brother, you're really scheming for him." Maryanne looked at him with a faint smile. "Am I your sister or is Jarvy your brother?"
Hobart's gaze darkened. "Maryanne, are you sure you want me to tell you the truth?"
He glanced at his father and mother, implying what he meant.
Maryanne's lips twitched. "Fine, I'll listen to you, okay?"
At seven o'clock.
Maryanne, accompanied by Hobart, got on Jarvy's car. The second before the car door was closed, Maryanne quickly grabbed the corner of Hobart's clothes and blinked her big eyes as she asked, "Brother, aren't you going with me?"
Hobart patted her small hand and said, "Don't worry, I'll be there later."
"Later? When is it?"
Maryanne looked at him suspiciously, thinking that her brother wouldn't be so deranged as to push her into the fire pit all night!
No, if he did not give her a satisfactory answer, she would drag him into the car with her even if she had to die!
Perhaps due to her strong resentment, Hobart quickly said, "I will be just a little late. I meant that I'll take you home after the press conference is over."
Seeing that Maryanne was so reluctant to part with him, Jarvy could not help but chuckle. "Maryanne, you don't have to be so nervous. There are so many people on the press conference. Are you afraid that I will eat you?"
