“You don’t get it. This is called intimacy between a couple. It’s nothing shameful. Rachel, you need to face
your own desires.”
Tyler’s eyes had a seductive glimmer that drew her in.
Rachel pursed her lips tightly. She felt so embarrassed that she wished she could stitch his mouth shut.
“You’re twisting my words…”
She pushed him away while clutching the stair rail as she walked downstairs. Tyler watched her clumsy retreat; instead of feeling angry, he smiled.
At breakfast, he said to Wanda, “Didn’t you say you were up early making chicken soup? Bring her two
bowls.”
Wanda, being experienced, took one look and immediately understood. She smiled and bustled off. “Of course, right away.”
Rachel quickly called after her. “Wanda, it’s fine. It’s too early in the morning to have chicken soup.”
“Don’t worry. It tastes great, and you’ll have an appetite for it after one sip.”
Watching Wanda fuss over her, Rachel thought anyone who didn’t know better would think she was in postpartum confinement.
Seeing Wanda completely ignore her protests, Rachel tugged at Tyler’s sleeve.
“Tell her I really don’t need it.”
“You do. With the workload these past few days, your body can’t handle it without extra nutrition.”
Tyler handed her a boiled egg.
Rachel had no choice. Better to eat now than risk fainting later. It would be far too embarrassing. She wasn’t hungry at all, but she forced herself to finish.
Wanda soon brought out the chicken soup.
“Drink up, Ms. Lloyd. This was made with free–range chicken. It’s really nourishing.”
Rachel couldn’t bring herself to refuse Wanda’s kindness.
“Alright.”
She accepted the bowl. It was obvious Wanda had put real care into it. There wasn’t a trace of oil on top. Rachel took a sip, and her frown eased instantly.

“This is delicious!”
Wanda beamed. “Glad you like it. Want another bowl?”
“Wanda, why don’t you give Tyler some? He’s been so busy with work lately, he’s lost weight. He should be the one getting extra nutrition.”
Wanda, of course, was delighted. “Of course, I’ll bring him a bowl.”
After Wanda stepped away, Tyler reached over to pinch Rachel’s cheek.
“Rachel, when did you get so sly? The soup is good for you. Why drag me into it? Soup this rich in the morning? It’ll cloud my brain if I drink too much.”
Rachel tilted her chin proudly and hummed.
“Oh, so you do know it’s greasy and clouds the brain. Then why were you so eager to have Wanda bring it
to me?”
“I was thinking of how exhausted you were last night. I was being considerate.”
“You were exhausted, too. You should replenish as well.”
As they spoke, Wanda returned with another bowl.
