Tyler’s brows furrowed, his face dark with anger. Rachel also heard what Wilma said over the phone.

She stared at Tyler for a few seconds before saying, “Why don’t…we drop charges? I didn’t end up getting hurt despite the act they put on.”

Tyler turned to look at her and said solemnly, “Rachel, tell me. What do you consider hurt? Did you forget how it felt like staring death in the face? Do you know what the doctor told me when I sent you to the hospital?”

His usually calm and composed demeanor was all but gone, his emotions slipping out of control. Veins popped on his forehead; his voice sounded lower than usual, as if he was trying his damnedest to suppress his anger.

Rachel could tell that Tyler was truly furious this time.

She patted his shoulder gently and said comfortingly, “Alright, alright. I know you did it for my good. I was wrong, and I’m sorry for upsetting you. Then again, there’s another problem. If you don’t drop charges and keep Sheryn in there, she’ll go to…”

“I know, but this is non–negotiable. If I drop charges, I’m not sure if Sheryn will realize her mistake. What if she schemes against you again next time? Asking me to let her go now is to risk your life. I don’t want to do that,” Tyler said.

Tyler was making his stance very clear. He wouldn’t change his mind and have Sheryn released because of Wilma’s threat over the phone.

Everything that happened yesterday served as a huge warning to him. If he took back the threat, Rachel’s life would be in the hands of another.

Rachel knew how vicious Sheryn was just to be with Tyler.

The moment one dared to take a gamble on another’s life, it was impossible to keep that person around. Doing so was simply dangerous.

“I get what you mean, but you have to consider the consequences. We barely managed to sign the contract with Anne and save the company, but now your aunt wants to jump off your office building. You should know the severity of the situation.”

Rachel didn’t want this to affect the prospects of Tyler’s company. The loss of a life wasn’t a trivial matter. Tyler rubbed his nose bridge in frustration. He leaned back on the chair, looking exhausted.

Rachel, knowing he was under great pressure, said nothing further. There was a solution to every problem- they just had to figure it out slowly.

By the time they arrived at Yurelia City, it was already eight in the evening.

For the first time, Rachel could feel the security this familiar city gave her. It felt completely different from being in a foreign land.
