Tyler noticed that Wilma was completely absorbed in her call with Sheryn, so he quickly went over to the police.
“I think the timing’s right. You guys can move in now.”
The officers exchanged glances and nodded.
“Alright, let’s do it.”
Wilma was still crying to her daughter and didn’t notice the officers circling her from behind. Tears and snot ran down her face while she sobbed.
“Sheryn, how am I supposed to live without you?”
Suddenly, several cops rushed in and grabbed her from behind. Wilma was so startled that she lost her grip, and the phone slipped to the ground.
“My phone!”
Rachel’s eyes widened.
Tyler quickly pulled her close. “It’s fine. I’ll buy you another one.”
Rachel frowned. “It’s not that. I had a lot of important files in there.”
“I’ll find a way to recover them later.”
Tyler gently rubbed her back while trying to calm her down.
Rachel glanced over and saw Wilma being taken into custody. At least she was safe now. The files could be dealt with later.
For now, no one had gotten hurt, and that was what mattered.
Still, Rachel couldn’t shake the worry. Sure, Wilma was rescued this time, but what if she couldn’t handle it later and tried jumping again? Nobody had the time or energy to keep going through this over and over.
She patted Tyler’s hand. “Wait for me a second. I’m going to talk to her.”
Tyler pulled her back.
“She’s still too emotional. What if she lashes out?”
“Don’t worry. She may have been crying nonstop, but she was really listening to Sheryn just now,” Rachel said reassuringly.
After easing Tyler’s concerns, she walked up to Wilma.
“You’ve talked to your daughter now. You should understand the reality of it. Don’t blame me anymore. You heard Tyler. He never had feelings for Sheryn, so it’s not like I stole her happiness. And even if she escaped this time, she won’t stay lucky forever. Sooner or later, she’ll get caught. If she killed me, her life would be over completely.

“She’d be branded a murderer, and not even dying alongside her would change that.
