“He shouldn’t continue to torment and deceive himself and others around him.”
William slammed the bottle hard on the table, causing some liquor to splash out and land on the back of his hand. He looked at his own reflection in the glass and suddenly chuckled self–derisively.
“Snatch? How can I even do that? Tyler is the only man she has eyes for right now, and even Grandpa has approved of their relationship. Who do I think I am?”
William had thought things through. If Rachel eventually decided to marry Tyler, he would never go back.
Why would he? He didn’t want to see them all lovey–dovey! All the more he didn’t want to have to call Rachel his
aunt.
He had finally realized that when he forced Rachel to divorce him so he could be with Samantha, he was in fact throwing aside something that was most precious to him.
William felt suffocated at the mere thought.
He turned to ask Samuel, “Was I a huge bastard back then?”
Samuel patted his shoulder comfortingly. “You were, but it’s not too late to realize it now. At least, you’ll think twice before doing something so bastardly.”
William remained silent and went on drinking himself silly.
The neon lights shone through the windows, casting a colorful sheen on his face that flickered on and off.
He knew that his friends were right, but regret grew like wild grass in his heart. He just couldn’t stop it.
Rachel and Tyler were on their way back after visiting Thomas when Tyler’s phone rang. It was a text from Jason.
[William is dead drunk in a bar, chanting your girlfriend’s name non–stop. Do you want to step in?]
Tyler’s eyes dimmed. [No.]
He knew William would never stand a chance to be with Rachel again. That man deserved to be in the pain he was in right now.
Rachel got into the car, followed by Tyler, who suddenly winced in pain. She anxiously turned to look at him and saw his brows furrowed.
“Did you bump your wound?”
“Yeah, I accidentally hit it, but it’s fine.”
Despite his reassurance, he instinctively covered his knees with his hands. Rachel could tell that he had hidden his wound so as not to let his father worry.
Rachel was still worried about Tyler’s state. She had seen with her own eyes how that bastard Howard hit Tyler
