Cecilia froze at Tyler’s sudden demand. She hadn’t expected him to ask to speak with Rachel directly.

Clearly, this trick wasn’t going to work again.

Tyler sounded determined, like he wouldn’t let the matter drop until he actually heard Rachel’s voice.

“That’s fine. I’ll wait for her to come back.”

Cecilia pursed her lips. It suddenly felt tense. What was she supposed to do when Rachel wasn’t even around?

She couldn’t just hang up, either. If she did, Tyler would definitely get suspicious.

Meanwhile, Tyler was in the bathroom, rinsing his face with the phone on speaker. He waited for Rachel to pick

Yale suddenly barged in. “Mr. Hunt, Mr. Denzel says he can’t get through to you. He says it’s urgent.

“Tell him to wait.” Tyler grabbed a towel and wiped his face.

“Mr. Denzel says it’s a matter of life and death,” Yale insisted. “He needs you to call him back right away!”

Tyler tossed the towel into the sink.

“Darn it!”

He picked up the phone and said to Cecilia, “Tell Rachel to come home early. If she’s out too late, have her call me. I’ll pick her up myself.”

Relieved, Cecilia nodded eagerly. “Of course, of course. I’ll make sure she heads back soon.”

Tyler hung up and immediately dialed Jason.

“Finally!” Jason complained. “Tyler, you’re killing me here. I thought you’d never answer!”

“Get to the point.”

Tyler grabbed his toothbrush and squeezed toothpaste onto it.

“I’m out of town on a business trip. My buddy’s running this agri–tech project. The kickoff was supposed to be at noon, but the project lead just got rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. Now, there’s no one to take over. If this deal falls through, my buddy’s screwed. You know me, I ran my mouth and promised him everything would be fine. I can’t just leave him hanging!”

Tyler snorted. “Do you expect me to clean up your mess? You’ve got to be kidding me, Jason.”

“This isn’t a joke! I need you to cover for me. You won’t lose out, I swear. Everything’s ready, and the plan’s in place. Just go for the meeting, look over the terms, and if the price looks fine, sign it. The whole project is yours, and so is the commission. I’m just asking you to save my friend and keep my word.”
