Tyler held Rachel as they walked out, almost carrying her into the car out of fear that she might lose her balance.

Throughout the journey, he didn’t make a single mention of Samantha, and instead chose to chat with her about mundane matters.

“I heard from Wanda that Sunny toppled the flower pot at home and Ray taught her a lesson.”

Rachel knew that Tyler was worried about Samantha’s accident affecting her, and chuckled to ease his worry.

“Is that so? Seems like Sunny is slowly getting used to life at home. I remember she was very easily frightened when she first arrived.”

“It’s good that she’s finally getting used to things. Wanda said that Sunny and Ray get along very well now.”

When they returned to their apartment, Tyler made Rachel sit down on the couch before pouring her a glass of warm honey water. He heated up some soup which he brought to her.

“Drink some soup. Don’t rush, there’s more in the kitchen.”

Rachel wasn’t used to Tyler being this way. With the bowl in hand, she said, “I’m fine, really. Go be busy.”

“I’m almost done with work, anyway. I’ve told William to stay by Samantha’s side at the hospital. He’ll call me if he has news.”

Rachel’s hand subconsciously tightened over the bowl. She felt her throat constricting.

“How is Samantha doing?”

“It’s hard to tell right now, but don’t feel burdened. This has nothing to do with you. Samantha’s suffering the consequences of her actions. If she hadn’t tried to push you, she wouldn’t have gotten hit by a car.”

Rachel nodded. She was simply shocked by what happened at that time. She didn’t really feel guilty about it.

As Tyler said, if it weren’t for the wicked thought Samantha had in mind, this accident could have been avoided.

Seeing Rachel sipping on the soup and the color returning to her cheeks relieved Tyler, who pulled out his phone and saw a text from William.

[Samantha’s out of the operating theatre. Her legs were crushed during the accident and they have to be amputated in order to save her life.]

Tyler’s fingers flew across the screen of his phone.

[Got it.]

After sending the reply, Tyler put his phone away and concentrated on being with Rachel.

He didn’t want such bad news affecting Rachel. He wanted her to focus on the pregnancy with a peace of mind and await the coming of their wedding.

Meanwhile, Samantha stirred awake at the hospital.

As the anesthesia slowly wore off, she felt a soul–crushing pain coming from her legs. When she tried to move them, she realized that there was nothing below her waist. The familiar feeling under the sheets was gone, leaving nothing but cold emptiness.

“My legs…where are my legs?!”

Samantha threw back the sheets and shrieked when she saw that the legs of her pants were flat. Her screams were so agonizing, all the nurses outside jumped in fright.
