Samson was holding a file, clearly on his way to the data center.

The moment he saw Ariel, he heaved a sigh of relief and quickened his pace toward her. Frowning, he stared at her. "You've been gone eight days. They said you took leave. Did something happen?"

His sharp features were shadowed with concern as he studied her.

Ariel met his gaze, while her thoughts stirred beneath the surface.

"I had a miscarriage, so I took some time to recover." This time, she kept nothing back and dropped the bombshell news.

Painful as the truth was, she didn't flinch as she said it. She just looked at Samson openly.

His gaze flickered. Surprise hit first, then stiffness, before his expression settled into something solemn. "How could that happen? What caused it?"

He pressed his lips together. "Actually, I had already heard from Cecilia that you were pregnant. You know it wasn't easy for me to accept, so I could only pretend I didn't know. But what you're going through…"

Ariel's eyes were clear, though her mind was turning.

She had thought Samson might simply pretend not to know about her pregnancy. But with Cecilia as his sister, pretending ignorance would have been weird.

In truth, the first person she suspected was Cecilia.

That night on the cruise still gnawed at her. Ariel hadn't been herself that night, and it wasn't only because of the alcohol.

After knowing Cecilia's feelings for Jayson, Ariel could only see her as the prime suspect.

One attempt would lead to another.

If Cecilia had really drugged her that night, Ariel wondered who she would have ended up with if Jayson hadn't been sharp enough to intervene. That meant Cecilia wanted to ruin her relationship with Jayson.
