The group moved in step with Jayson. No one made a special effort to greet Ariel.

Ariel wasn't surprised. This felt like exactly how things should be right now.

Since Jayson had left the hospital, she hadn't seen him at all.

Eric hadn't noticed anything unusual. "Mr. Larkin's probably busy. He was abroad for a while and just returned today."

Ariel nodded. That explained his absence.

But even if he hadn't left Croinia, they still wouldn't have crossed paths. After what happened with the baby, there was no chance of any emotional connection between them anymore.

She remembered what Jayson had said at the hospital—that he would wait until her work at the 719 base was done to cooperate with her. She understood exactly what that meant.

He was hurt. He assumed she had gone through with the abortion before he returned. He despised her for not wanting his child. So it was over.

It made sense that he would think that way.

They wouldn't have any further ties in the future.

Ariel didn't even know what her own future held. Would she fully recover? Fail? Or maybe relapse?

At this point, how could she even hope to convince him to believe her? She didn't have any proof herself.

"Have you two not made up yet?" Elsie asked, tilting her head in curiosity.

Ariel didn't address the question. Instead, she turned to Eric. "This round of materials is being tested in batches. We'll probably need to do two more rounds later. Make sure your team cooperates fully. There can't be any mistakes."

Eric smiled. "Don't worry, Mrs. Larkin. Mr. Larkin has always overseen this since it's important for your future work."

Ariel paused slightly, then led Elsie inside to start organizing the work.

The materials involved complex data, and Ariel would need to analyze each report carefully.

She occasionally glanced at Elsie and instructed her, "Take note of this and send it to my email."

Elsie listened, bewildered by the unfamiliar sets of data. "What kind of data is this?"

Ariel didn't even look up. "Just don't get the numbers wrong."
