Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 726

After Ariel checked the flight data with Elsie, Jayson arrived.

By the time Ariel reached the entrance, he looked up and immediately noticed how thinly she was dressed. The weather had turned chilly.

Frowning, he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. "Aren't you cold? You're not trying to do a runway show at the base, right?"

Ariel was enveloped by the warmth radiating from his coat. His subtle, cool scent was especially distinct.

Lately, Jayson seemed unusually attentive to her, ready to snuff out even the slightest ripple before it could grow.

"Didn't you say it was urgent?" she asked directly.

Jayson had already opened the car door. "Yeah. Get in."

She frowned at his air of secrecy but got in anyway.

Once inside, he started driving. His voice was calm as he said, "We're going to dinner."

"What about the urgent matter?"

"It's dinner."

Ariel looked at him with her lips pressed together.

Seriously? The urgent matter for Jayson, a multibillion-dollar CEO, was dinner?

He didn't even seem to notice the irony. "It's a tucked-away restaurant that serves your favorite cuisine. Matt runs it. He asked me to show some support."

Ariel didn't bother arguing. "You could've just said it straight."

"Would you have agreed if I did?"

Ariel stayed quiet.

Given her current condition, Jayson couldn't relax if she was out of his sight for too long.

Her illness was hanging by a thread. It needed a quick resolution.

Six experts were already in Eldoria discussing the best course of action for her.

Jayson quietly pinched the bridge of his nose.

He hadn't actually slept, but he didn't want to bring any negative emotions to Ariel. At the very least, if he appeared calm, she might feel a little more at ease and not be so tense or fearful about the upcoming surgery.

Ariel could sense the unease beneath the calm he projected.
