Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 731

Ariel had just sat down at the dining table when she saw Jayson's follow request on her phone.

Leonard was serving her a bowl of oatmeal.

"Today it's oatmeal with extra nuts and berries. You need to keep your nutrition up before the surgery. Any operation will take a toll on your strength, so make sure your body is well-prepared." Leonard wasn't married, so he had always treated Ariel like his own child.

Now that she was battling cancer, he understood just how hard it could be. He had endured it himself, and it hadn't been easy. He couldn't imagine how someone as fragile as Ariel could cope.

"I can do it myself, Uncle Leo." Ariel tore her gaze from her phone and reached for the bowl he offered.

"Mr. Larkin texted you?" Leonard asked, noticing the message on her phone.

He wasn't exactly opposed to Jayson. If anything, he admired him.

Putting emotions aside, Leonard thought Jayson was one of the best among the younger generation.

Ariel just smiled without saying anything.

Leonard continued serving the oatmeal to set aside for Kate, who hadn't come back from her walk yet. Then, he said gently, "Actually, I couldn't sleep last night, so I stepped out onto the balcony for some fresh air. Mr. Larkin's car had been parked there the whole time. He didn't leave until I got up this morning."

Clearly, Jayson had spent the entire night watching over Ariel. It was sad even without any hysteria.

Surely, he must have been quietly tormented by Ariel's illness as well.

Ariel didn't know this. She glanced at the timestamp on Jayson's morning message—6:30 am.

He hadn't mentioned anything about being out there all night.

Leonard glanced at Ariel. She was staring at her phone, lost in thought, so he didn't disturb her.

Ariel looked back at Jayson's follow request. As she was thinking, a news notification popped up.
