Chapter 68
“Sir, should we go help Miss Paige?” Liam asked with uncharacteristic urgency, risking his employer’s displeasure.]
Rex, though less bold, nodded in agreement. They couldn’t just leave her sitting there alone while strangers gawked!
Zarek lifted his gaze, giving them a cool look. “If you want to help, help. No need to make me sound like the villain here.)
Permission granted.
Liam made a U–turn
Before they could reach Adeline, a white BMW beat them to it.
Du
The car pulled up, and a woman in a sleek red pantsuit paired with a black blouse stepped out, radiating competence and attitude.
She strode purposefully to Adeline. “Why the wheelchair? Did Tristan lose his mind and break your legs to keep you from running away?“]
Your imagination needs serious boundaries.“]
“Say’s the woman who just staged that whole airport drama?” Summer raised an eyebrow.]
“It worked though, didn’t it?” Adeline grinned like a fox who’d successfully raided the henhouse.
Summer cracked a smile too, pushing the wheelchair toward her car. “Maybe too well. Evelyn’s like a ticking time bomb.”
Adeline’s eyes darkened. “Even if I’d left her alone, even if we’d fought the Granthams in court and sent her to prison, as long as she’s breathing, she’d find ways to cause trouble. This way, she gets the man I don’t want, and she’s fighting desperately for him. Win–win, if you think about it.“]]
Summer: “…”
That’s some twisted logic.
She helped Adeline into the car, stowed the wheelchair in the trunk, and drove away.
The Bentley followed at a distance.[]
Liam expressed his confusion. “Did Miss Paige know Tristan would ditch her, so she arranged backup?”
Rex shrugged. “Probably just coincidence.”
How could she have predicted Evelyn would show up to make a scene? She wasn’t psychic. “Or maybe she never intended to go home with Tristan and had already called her friend.“]
Liam nodded. “That makes sense.”
As they talked, both men glanced in the rearview mirror, partly worried their boss would find their chattering annoying, partly curious about his take on the situation.
Zarek siraply closed his eyes.[]
Clearly signaling he had zero interest in discussing the matter.

The two cars drove from the airport in tandem for half the journey. After entering the city, passing through five traffic lights and making three turns, Summer finally noticed the Bentley consistently behind them
Adeline had been dozing since getting in the car, apparently drained from her airport performance.[]
Summer grew increasingly alert, constantly checking the car behind them.]
Another ten minutes passed
They were approaching the residential complex, and the car was still following… If it hadn’t been a Bentley Mulsanne, she might have suspected Evelyn had sent someone to “take care of them]
Hitmen couldn’t afford cars like that, right?
As they reached the complex entrance, Suquer
was alarmed to see the Bentley still following. She shook Adeline awake. “Adeline, wake up…
“Hmm? We home?” Adeline blinked avake, looked outside, and seeing they were at the complex entrance, rolled down the window for the facial recognition scanner()
The gale barrier lined.]]
As summer drove in, she nervously said, “That car’s been following us the whole way… walt, how can they got in too? Do they live here?“)
“What?” Adeline, now more aleg, itched back!]
Had they gone home already? Why were they beland her?]]
Sanuser perucked “Should we make a run for
My need It’s my new Loss’s car
Now? Bry
Adeline rolled her eyes at Summer’s speculative look. “Put your imagination in check. He’s just my new boss.”
There were three other elevators available, and they could easily have taken a different one, but that might have seemed… disrespectful to her boss?
The pull itself wasn’t the problem–the older man was just being helpful–but after pulling it in, he stepped aside, leaving Adeline suddenly facing a pair of long legs perfectly encased in light gray suit pants!
Adeline, inexplicably facing her boss’s legs: “…!!”
Summer, standing behind her: “…?
Zarek, with an expression so blank it was practically nonexistent: “.

An awkward silence descended.
“Mr. Weasley, your car drives pretty slow for a Bentley,” Adeine tilted her head back, smiling awkwardly to break the tension while reaching back to squeeze Summer’s hand: Turn around! Turn the wheelchair around!]

Summer, too engrossed in admiring the CEO’s incredible face up close, didn’t want to move.
Zarek looked down. “Instead of making small talk in elevators, maybe select your floor first.”
His tone carried a mix of teasing, resignation, and a barely perceptible hint of… indulgence.
Adeline awkwardly turned to press the button.]
“Summer-“After pressing it, she subtly reminded her friend again, pinching the back of Summer’s hand.
“Oh, night.” Summer finally got the hint.
The elevator was spacious compared to standard residential buildings, but with five people and a wheelchair, executing a smooth turn was challenging.
She stepped back, bumped into Rex’s arm, apologized, and then pushed the wheelchair forward significantly.
Adeline felt her face heading straight for Zarek’s legs.
“Whon, hold up!”
Panicking, she instinctively reached out to brace herself and her hands landed squarely on his thighs.]

She froze, eyes wide, taking a full frye seconds before withdrawing her hands.
The embarrassment was soul–crushing
Zareks pale, handsome face gained a hint of color.
