Chapter 826
Jonathan’s eyes were so sharp that if Teresa dared say she didn’t trust him, he’d probably teach her a harsh lesson right then and there.
Teresa looked away. “If it’s not you, then it must be your mom,”
Jonathan said, “How could it possibly be my mom?”
“And why couldn’t it be your mom?” Teresa retorted, refusing to back down.
Jonathan’s brow slowly furrowed. “Will you only be satisfied after you’ve doubted every single person in my family?”
Teresa’s suppressed anger flared up again at his words. “Why can’t I doubt your mom? She doesn’t like me. Isn’t it possible she’s using your company against me?”
Jonathan explained, “I’m the one in charge at Horizonlead Group. I gave her the family card. How could she possibly have the power to mess with your company?”
Teresa fell silent. She turned her face away completely with tears swirling in her eyes. The city lights outside lit up Jonathan’s calm, steady look on the glass. She knew him down to his bones, but right now, she still felt disappointed and sad.
Jonathan continued, “I promise you, this has nothing to do with me or my family.”
“How can you be so sure?” Teresa shot back.
Jonathan was momentarily at a loss for words. Just as he was about to say something else, he glanced sideways at Teresa while driving. When he saw the tears slip from the corner of her eye, he froze, and then his voice instantly softened.
He said, “I was mad that you hid Mike from me, and yeah, I said I’d get back at you. But did I ever actually do it?
“Now you’re pregnant with my child. If I still tried to hurt you, I’d have no conscience at all! Do you really think I’m that kind of guy?”
“Don’t touch me!” Teresa snapped, jerking his hand away as he tried to wipe her tears.
Jonathan didn’t know what to say. “So in the end, you still don’t trust me. Fine. I’ll get to the bottom of this and prove my innocence,” he said.
Teresa said nothing. She took out a tissue from her bag to wipe her tears. She wasn’t crying because she doubted Jonathan.
It was because of Irene. She felt helpless, just like she had so many times before, enduring in silence. She suddenly wondered what all her endurance
was even for anymore.
Even while pregnant, she still had to carry the stigma of being accused of scheming for his family’s money by having his child.
She thought, ‘What’s the use of explaining? People who don’t trust you will never believe you, no matter what you say, right?‘
Jonathan took Teresa to his villa in the east district.
Standing at the door, Teresa said, “I’m leaving tomorrow. I’m just crashing here for one night. I’ll transfer you the money for the stay later.”
Jonathan frowned. “Are you gonna keep talking to me like this?”
But Teresa had already turned and headed back to her room.
Jonathan stared silently at her back. He pursed his lips, and then turned and headed to his study. He called the person in charge at Nareigh and asked about Teresa’s company. Then he gave that person a few quiet instructions.
“Okay, Mr. Lynn,” the person replied.
