Mark’s face went pale. He realized the man in front of him was not someone to mess with.

Cold sweat streamed down Mark’s gleaming bald head, running in rivulets down.”

“We’ve never had any bad blood between us. Why must you make things so difficult for me?” Mark pleaded.

“I’m making things difficult for you?” Jonathan echoed. He leaned back in his chair, eyes locked on the scammer in front of him.

“Weren’t you the one who claimed to know who my destined soulmate is? My birth date is right here. Why don’t you read it for me again?” Jonathan spat out.

Mark understood what Jonathan was after and immediately confessed, “A young lady came to me and paid me 15 thousand upfront to do something for her.”

Jonathan flipped his phone over and asked, “What did she want you to do? What’s her name?”

Mark shook his head and explained, “She only gave her last name, Yalena. She said Mrs. Lynn would come for a fortune reading and ask me to tell her that you and Yalena are destined to be together. I did as she asked.”

Jonathan flipped his phone over again and continued, “So all that stuff about a destined soulmate was made up?”

Mark said with a nod, “She told me to fake it. I was doing what I got paid for.”

Jonathan scoffed. He’d already recorded every word Mark said.

Mark pleaded, “I swear I won’t do it again. Just cut me some slack, okay?”

“You tried to scam me. Do you think I’d just let you off the hook?” Jonathan shot back.

Mark panicked and blurted out, “I can read fortunes. Let me do a reading for you. My family’s been doing this for generations. We’re always

spot on.”

Jonathan was silent for a couple of seconds, then stood up. “Save it. I don’t buy any of that.”

He didn’t want anyone reading his fortune or deciding who he should be with. He didn’t care whether the prediction was right or wrong.

He just wanted to follow his own heart, even if that meant being with someone he was doomed to be with. He’d accept it.

After Jonathan left, he told Bobby to call the police and have the scammer arrested. He didn’t want him hurting any more innocent people.

When he returned to the Lynn family, he handed all the evidence to Irene, letting her see for herself. After hearing the recording, her

expression changed instantly.

“You mean that fortune–teller was a fraud? Yalena hired a scammer on purpose?” she exclaimed.

“Exactly. Do you still think Yalena is some kind of saint?” Jonathan shot back.

Irene pressed her lips together, then retorted, “Just because of this one thing, you can’t say Yalena is wrong. You’ve been ignoring her all this time. What else could she do? She had no other choice.”

Jonathan stared at Irene, his disappointment growing. “Why do you trust Yalena so much? And why would you use her as a pawn against

Teresa?”
