Irene’s eyes went wide. “How can you be as shameless as Teresa? Did I say anything wrong about her?” she pressed.

Miriam shot back, “Teresa isn’t like that. If she cared about money, she’d have used the baby to squeeze millions from the Lynns. She hid the child from Jonathan because she wouldn’t use her child as leverage.”

The more Miriam spoke, the more it hurt. She wondered, ‘Why did Teresa change? Was it because of the baby or something else? Why had she become so cautious and guarded?‘

Miriam’s heart ached for Teresa, but Irene scoffed. “How do you know Teresa isn’t just after Jonathan’s money? She’s fishing for a bigger catch. No one’s more calculating than her.”

“Calculating? Seriously?” Miriam said as she let out a bitter, angry laugh. “Oh, please. I’ve known Teresa for a long time. I know what kind of person she is. Who are you to judge her like that?”
