James stopped short.
His expression shifted in an instant, his handsome brows pinching together in annoyance. It was such a small thing, but to Mandy, it felt like a slap—sharp and humiliating, right in front of everyone. The blood drained from her cheeks. Her legs went weak, and she could barely keep herself standing.
James didn’t even look her way. He just turned to his assistant and spoke two words, cold and crisp.
“Throw it out.”
Without a flicker of emotion, the assistant stepped forward, snatched the suit bag from Mandy’s frozen hands, and said coolly, “Mr. Nelson’s clothes aren’t for just anyone to handle.”
The message was clear as day: now that you’ve touched it, it’s dirty.
The assistant spun on his heel and walked off to toss the bag, not sparing Mandy a second glance.
Mandy’s knees buckled and she nearly collapsed, mortified.
A slender hand caught her arm just in time.
Isabel’s smile was calm and gracious, her eyes soft as she turned to James with a playful scold. “Jamie, Mandy’s my friend. Don’t be so harsh.”
She added, “Your assistant was the one who asked her to bring the suit.”
Mandy shot Isabel a grateful look and all but hid behind her, still pale as a ghost.
James turned to Isabel, his frown deepening. “What are you doing here?”
Isabel just smiled, her voice gentle. “Didn’t we text about this? Letter from the Other Side launches today. I thought I’d bring you some feedback from real users.”
She gestured to the group of socialites behind her, all dressed to impress but now silent as mice. “They’re curious about the game, so I brought them along.”
