Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 312

The elevator chimed as the doors slid open.

Emmy pushed her mom’s wheelchair out at a brisk pace. James followed, watching her go for a moment. He pulled out his phone, turned, and headed for the balcony at the end of the hall.

He looked around to make sure no one was there, then dialed a secure number. His voice was low and cold. “It’s me. Claudia’s starting something again. This time, I want absolute protection for my wife and mother-in-law. Dr. Hall will cooperate with us.”

Inside the hospital room, Teresa hesitated for a long time before finally asking, “Emmy, is the court date coming up soon?”

Emmy helped her mom get comfortable and poured her a glass of warm water. “There’s no date set yet. Mr. Michell wants to wait until you’re out of the hospital before moving forward.”

“I really am feeling better. Tell Mr. Michell to just set a date. I can make it through the hearing.”

Just thinking about Cooper—still out there, living free while she was stuck in a hospital bed—made Teresa furious. She couldn’t wait another day. All she wanted was to get divorced, see him locked up, and get back everything he’d stolen from the Drennon family, so she could leave it all to her daughter. Even if the hearing were tomorrow, she’d crawl there if she had to.

Seeing the determination in her mom’s eyes, Emmy nodded. “Alright. I’ll talk to Abriella and have them set it up.”

She stepped out onto the balcony with her phone.

James came back soon after and noticed Emmy was still on her call, so he didn’t interrupt. He waited quietly in the room. A moment later, his own phone buzzed. He answered, murmured a quiet “Mm,” and hung up.

He walked over to Teresa’s bedside and spoke in a steady, serious voice. “Mom, I have to head back to the fire station. Could you let her know for me?”

Teresa nodded, but then fixed him with a pointed look. “You’re married now. People notice things. Emmy would never sneak around with another man behind your back, and I hope you’ll do the same for her.”

James understood what she was getting at and frowned, his brow creasing. “Thanks for the reminder, Mom. I’ll be careful. Once everything’s settled, I’ll explain it all to her.”

He stepped into the hallway and almost ran straight into Dean, who was carrying a huge bouquet of flowers.
