Cooper followed, barely keeping his voice down. “If Evelina hadn’t insisted on marrying Dean—and if you hadn’t suddenly come back—none of this would’ve blown up so fast! Now look at us. They’ve dragged me into court. Who knows how much evidence they’ve got on us already. If I end up in jail, don’t think you’ll be living easy either.”
