Grandpa Carter’s face fell, his tone sharp. “You better have a good reason for dragging us all here like this. This had better be something serious.”
Emmy nodded right away, her attitude humble and respectful.
“I know how busy you all are, but there’s something you need to know as soon as possible.”
She looked at each of the three elders, her voice sincere.
“When my grandfather started Starlight Corporation, he couldn’t have done it without you. All of you built this company together. He trusted you more than anyone.”
The tension in the room eased a little at her words.
But then Emmy’s voice dropped, chilling the air.
“This morning, I found out something awful. My grandfather’s lung cancer—it wasn’t natural. Someone did this to him. And the next targets could be you, Grandpa Buckley, Grandpa Carter, and you, Mr. Hart.”
“There’s no point in just talking. I want you to see something for yourselves.”
She reached out, moved the vase from the center of the table, and set her laptop down. With a tap, the video began to play.
The screen flickered with grainy surveillance footage.
At first, the three elders looked confused. But soon, shock washed over their faces, draining all the color away. By the end, their expressions had hardened into something close to outrage and disbelief.
Suddenly, Grandpa Buckley clutched his chest and started coughing hard.
“Grandpa Buckley!” Emmy rushed over and gently rubbed his back.
He waved her off, insisting he was fine, but his eyes never left the screen, now red and full of pain.
The video ended, leaving the room in dead silence.
Mr. Hart was the first to react. He slammed his fist on the table with a heavy thud, his voice low and shaking with anger. “That bastard! That monster!”
