Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 393

As soon as Emmy spoke, the room filled with murmurs of agreement.

With most of the shares in her hands, Emmy was the one calling the shots now. One word from her and Juan would be out of the president’s chair before sunset.

Everyone’s eyes were locked on her, waiting for the final verdict.

But before she could say anything, Grandpa Carter, sitting a little ways down the table, stood up. His eyes were red and watery.

“Mr. Lincoln… I know Juan messed up. He nearly got some of the board in deep trouble. He deserves punishment, I won’t deny it.” He paused, his voice trembling. “But about putting those directors at risk—he truly didn’t know. It was all Evelina. She took Juan’s phone and sent those invitations, pretending to be him!”

He’d only found out afterward. He’d been so angry, he’d actually taken a whip to Juan. The old man’s hands shook at the memory.

That boy was willing to throw away the Carter family’s name, just to marry that woman. But the Carters would never let someone like Evelina into the family.

Grandpa Carter’s voice cracked. “Mr. Lincoln, Juan might not have achieved anything great, but he’s always worked hard. The company’s been steady with him in charge. Please, for the sake of this old man, give him one more chance.”

It was true—Juan had set up those meetings with the directors, saying it was for business. Emmy frowned. Whether Juan knew what Evelina was up to or not, he couldn’t dodge the blame. By the book, he should be fired.

But Starlight Corporation was complicated, with tangled loyalties everywhere. Finding a new president who could handle the chaos right now would be almost impossible.

Besides, Emmy had her own plans for that seat. If someone else took over now, it’d be much harder for her to take control next year. Letting Juan stay, even with a stain on his record, was far easier than dealing with a complete outsider.

When the time was right, taking over would be simple.

Emmy finally looked up, her gaze cool and sharp as glass.

“I’m rejecting the board’s proposal,” she said, her voice calm but firm. “Starlight is already going through enough. The markets are shaky, everyone’s nervous, and changing leaders now would only make things worse.”

“Mr. Carter will stay on as president.” She paused, letting her words sink in. Her tone dropped, cold and serious. “But this is the last time. If anything like this happens again, it won’t just be about losing your title. The consequences will be much more serious.”

The room went silent. Directors and shareholders exchanged glances. Emmy’s ambition was obvious, but no one had expected her to let Juan off the hook now, of all times.

Even the oldest, sharpest board members couldn’t figure out her game.
