The red dot was almost pressed up against the spot marked as Pearl’s base on the map—so close they practically overlapped. But James just knew—they were two completely different locations.
The chief of staff leaned in, eyes narrowed, studying the map. That tiny gap was almost invisible, something you’d miss if you blinked.
His voice was heavy with worry. “There’s weird interference in this part of South America. The satellites can’t get a clear shot, just a blurry outline.”
But sometimes, on the battlefield, it’s exactly those tiny details that decide everything. One small mistake, and the whole operation could fall apart.
They had to be careful. More than careful.
James’s gaze was sharp, his tone icy. “Get me some paper and a pen. We’re drawing this out ourselves.”
This was the kind of skill that went beyond tech—an almost insane level of attention to detail and spatial awareness that no fancy computer could replace.
Will didn’t need to be told twice. He spread out a huge piece of white paper on the table. James stared hard at the fuzzy satellite image, rattling off numbers and landmarks as fast as he could speak. Will’s pen flew across the page.
In just a few minutes, a new map took shape—clearer than anything the satellites could give them. Rivers crisscrossed like a web, jungle everywhere you looked.
James jabbed a finger at a small, hidden corner on the back of the map—the spot they’d just pinpointed.
“That village? It’s just for show.”
“Here. This is where Pearl really is.”
The chief of staff stared at the hand-drawn map, a chill running down his back. The two hideouts were barely a kilometer apart, just a river between them. Who would’ve guessed Pearl was this sly?
He shuddered, remembering the failed rescue missions. Every time, they’d gone after that so-called fortress on the water. It was impossible to take, the maps were useless, and they’d lost too many men. In the end, they’d had to give up.
If they’d thrown everything at that decoy, only to find it empty...
He didn’t even want to imagine the fallout—how could he ever explain that?
Thank God James had figured it out in time. Now, finally, they had Pearl’s real base in their sights.
James’s eyes swept over the new map, his voice low and steady. “For this mission, I need everyone working together.”
He drew two sharp lines on the paper. “You’ll go in from the river—make it look like a full-on assault. Pull all their fire to the fake village.”
