Under the thin, scattered starlight, a chilly wind swept through the night.

A car zipped past under the villa’s porch light. The Winslet family’s butler glanced over, then hurried inside.

“Ms. Winslet, Orson’s here.”

Kay’s brow furrowed as she looked up from her stack of paperwork, shooting her assistant a sharp glance.

The assistant stiffened, suddenly recalling the report from ten minutes earlier.

“Ms. Winslet, we’ve lost contact with those two guys.”

“Did Sylvia and Mr. Rupert see each other?” Kay asked.

“They did. Got a picture right here. Mr. Rupert nearly got himself killed saving Sylvia.”

The assistant handed her the photo.

Kay studied it, nodding in approval. “Those hired hands always bring trouble. If they’ve disappeared, that just saves us the hassle. My objective was met anyway.”

The assistant hesitated, worry in her voice. “But if Ms. Sanford finds out, won’t she—”

Kay’s cold stare cut her off.

“I’m doing Reese a favor. If she can’t keep her seat as Mrs. Garcia, what use will she be to us in the future?”

“Yes, ma’am,” the assistant replied, not daring to say another word.

With that, the assistant continued reporting on company matters.

But just then, Orson arrived.

Kay snapped her folder shut and composed herself, turning to the butler. “Show Orson in.”

The butler nodded, but as he turned, he stumbled back in shock at what he saw.

Two men, hands and feet bound, were tossed unceremoniously at Kay’s feet.

Kay sprang up, annoyance flaring. “Orson, what is the meaning of this?”

Orson calmly adjusted his leather gloves, his expression unreadable. “Ms. Winslet, don’t worry. Mr. Rupert asked me to bring these men here so they could personally explain the whole story to you.”

The two men on the floor looked up to Kay, eyes pleading for mercy.
