Ever After Awaits
Chapter 64: Layla POV
Peering slowly around Cade’s broad shoulders towards whoever cleared their throat, I expect to see a parent or even a teacher, judging us for out openi
demonstration of PDA.
Seeing Xavier’s scowling face, I would actually have preferred it if it were a parent of teacher. The disgruntled look pinching the corners of his eyes tells ma he’s still pissy about last night. Well, screw him
Choosing to ignore him and his surly ass, I gently push Cade away and hop off the flap so I can go over to the other two men that’s flanking him I go Hanter first and only stop when I’m pressed right up against him, my breasts brushing against his chiseled chest.
“Congratulations,” I say as I lean onto my tiptoes and kiss his lips chastely.
Hunter’s not satisfied, though, and bands his one arm around my lower back and pulls me tightly against him. “After the soul–sucking kiss ! just save yo give Cade, you honestly don’t think I’ll let you get away with the measly peck you just tried to give me, right?” he asks, as he lifts one of his equates at the in mock disapproval.
“Well, you did assist in scoring the winning touchdown, so I guess that justifies me giving you a proper congratulatory kiss,” I reply as I feign giving the subject the utmost consideration.
“Proper my ass,” is his only reply before he bends me backward and kisses the breath from my lungs and the thoughts from my head.
Al’s voice pipes up from off to the side, “Hey, what about my kiss?” sounding positively petulant, which causes me to giggle into Hunter’s kiss.
Hunter pulls us back up so we’re standing upright again, but without breaking eye contact with me, he answers AJ. “You didn’t play; therefore, you didn’t help us win. Ergo, no kiss for you.”
I shake my head at him while a smile plays on my lips.
“So unfair,” comes his reply from behind me before I hear him stomp off, presumably to get into the truck.
Without realizing, Xavier has stepped closer, and I feel his breath on the back of my neck when he says, “Going by that logic, Hunter, I get a kiss too, right?”
My pulse jumps at the seductive tone in his voice, and when his hand lands on my hip, I’m on the verge of going up in flames with all the male testosterone swirling around me.
“Hmm, you have a valid point there,” Hunter says, as he suddenly spins me around and pulls my back to his front. “Beautiful, be a good supporter of our team, and congratulate Xavier on our win,” he purrs into my ear, nuzzling my throat with the tip of his nose.
Without another word, Xavier steps into me, dips his head, and kisses me. It starts slow, but when he brushes his tongue against my lower lip to request entry, I give it to him without hesitation. When our tongues gently start their choreographed dance of exploring, tasting, and enticing, I lose my last shred of restraint and fist my hands into the front of his shirt.
I know we still have to talk. I know we still have to figure out what’s happening between us. But in this moment, while Hunter’s stoking my desire to a teves pitch with his gentle caresses on my hips and his lips nipping and sucking on my throat all while Xavier devours my mouth as his hand tangles y nothing outside of this bubble matters for the next couple of minutes.
Xavier pulls away first, but doesn’t go far as he looks at me with blown out pupils that almost make the green in his eye seem non existent. Hix following wurds, though, douse me in a bucket of ice water: “I hope Mason kisses you like that when you’re with him.”
Is that all this was to him? So he could prove a point? Why did I ever think Xavier could change and not be a total asshole?
After all the emotional highs of today, I should have known it was too good to be true. I should have known I coutict experience being truly happs for one whole day without someone emotionally gutting he somehow
Hunter and Cade immediately notics as any face pales, my shoulders slump, and my eyes blin with tracy, because in the next instant, Cade shoves Xavier but of the way to get to me, wrapping me up in his comforting arms and tucking my face into ho chest
Hunter gets right up into Xavier’s face as the sneers at him. “You fucking idiot Mason is Tessa’s seven year–old son, you abslute shit slain for brafus,
From the corner of my eye, I see Hunter look back at me briefly before turning back to Xavier and pointing in my direction.

Chapter 64: Layla POV
you emotional immaturity has done to the girl who means the world to us?”
Xavier is speechless. His face goes slack with an emotion that might be classified as regret if one were to see it on anyone else other than Xavier
On a roll, Hunter doesn’t allow Xavier to answer, “You could have just asked her, in a polite and civilized manner, who Mason was. But instead, being the insecure manchild you are, you automatically thought the worst of her. And, even if you didn’t ask her, if you had stopped to think for one fucking scent. your pea sized brain would have told you that Layla has never even looked at another guy other than us four. But noonon, you just had to make her for miserable in case she might hurt you. And the big bad Xavier refuses to let a girl get close enough for him to actually catch feelings. So cutting bey oft the knees is your go–to, right? To show the world the great Xavier Reed bows to no girl and the feelings she might evoke in him.”
Hunter gives him a last scathing look before turning around and stepping towards me and Cade. Holding his hand out to me and in a voice that’s the complete opposite of the disgusted one he addressed Xavier with, he says to me, “Come, Beautiful. Let’s get you home.”
During the whole commotion, even AJ had stepped out of the truck to witness Hunter verbally ripping Xavier a new asshole. As I silently approach him with one hand in Cade’s and the other in Hunter’s, he holds one of the passenger doors open with a soft, tender smile. When I pass him to get inside, he kisses me gently on the forehead before helping me settle, even buckling my seatbelt.
I’m surprised when Cade and AJ both get into the backseat with me, book–ending me with their warm bodies, as if to lend me their strength during this shitty turn of events.
Before Hunter closes his driver’s side door behind him, he hollers to Xavier, “You can find your own way home tonight.”
The look on Xavier’s face as we drive away pulls at my heartstrings, but I need to start hardening my resolve around him. He can’t keep trampling all over me just because he can’t figure out what he wants.
