Ex-Alpha's Regret: Siren's Comeback novel Chapter 18

POV: Seraphina

My isolation was now absolute. Every servant in the manor now looked at me with a mixture of fear and pity, their loyalty now firmly sworn to the woman who clearly held the Alpha's favor. Sylvie's victory was total. And her next move was to claim the brightest jewel in the Luna's crown.

The annual Foundation Day Celebration was the most important social event of the year for the Blackwood pack. It was a day of feasting, dancing, and reaffirming allegiances. Traditionally, it was the Luna's event to command. It was my chance to shine, to manage the intricate logistics and act as the gracious hostess for hundreds of pack members and visiting dignitaries. It was the ultimate symbol of my position.

The announcement came during dinner, just four days before the event. Damian cleared his throat, and the already tense silence in the dining room became absolute.

"Regarding the Foundation Day Celebration," he said, his gaze fixed on a point just above my head. "It is a significant undertaking. And considering the… stress you've been under lately, Seraphina, I feel it would be too much of a burden for you to handle alone this year."

I felt a cold dread pool in my stomach. I knew what was coming.

"Therefore," he continued, turning to smile warmly at Sylvie. "Sylvie has graciously offered to co-host the event with me. Her knowledge of Blackwood's older traditions will be a great asset in restoring the celebration to its former glory."

Damian didn't even glance at my attire. He took Sylvie's hand, led her to the center of the room, and raised his glass.

"To the Blackwood pack!" he boomed. Then his eyes softened as he looked at Sylvie. "And to the beautiful lady who has injected so much new life and vitality into our most cherished traditions. To Sylvie!"

Hundreds of glasses were raised in the air, a forest of crystal reflecting the light onto Sylvie's triumphant, smiling face.
